When You Should Port Forward

DISCLAIMER: If you do not know what you are doing, we recommend avoiding port forwarding altogether. If you have to port forward, do not skip any steps. Please be careful when modifying your network; we cannot take responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

You should only port forward if you want to play ABK Vanilla online and broadcast to spectators. There are other methods of playing with others linked here. This guide is only applicable for ABKCaster (Vanilla).

Introduction to Port Forwarding

You do not need to port forward if you are connecting, only if you are hosting.
Port forwarding is when you open a specific part of your internet router to incoming traffic. ABKCaster by default uses the port number 7500, so we will be using this as an example.
This guide will link to portforward.com, which advertises their "port-forwarding" tools. Do not follow any of these advertisements, you do not need to download anything to port forward.

1. Setting up a static IP address

The IP address we will be making static is your PC's internal IP address - in other words, the string of numbers that identifies your PC to your router. This will look something like 192.168.1.72 - it may look different for you.
There are some very good guides on this subject that can be found here.
After setting up your static IP address, move onto the next step.

2. Identifying your router and finding the correct portforward.com guide

On your router should be a sticker listing model name and model number. Make a note of this and go back to your PC.
Go to this website and locate your ISP and your router on your ISP page. If this website does not have a guide for your router, Google search "Your Router Model Here Port Forwarding Guide" and it should give you some results.
Follow your guide until you get to the part where you configure your ports. Ignore whatever the guide wants you to set up and configure this port:
Protocol: UDP
Port range: 7500-7500
Translate to: 7500-7500
IP Address: This will be the IP you set up in Step 1.
Other settings should be left untouched. Continue the rest of the guide and save your settings.

3. Testing Your Connection

After the previous steps are completed it is recommended to reboot your PC, though this may be unnecessary.
Next you will need to grab your IP from this website and open ABKCaster.
Input 8 to select "Test myPort" and enter "srk.shib.live".
If successful, you should receive a message that says "Port: OK ( UDP.7500 received signal )" and you are ready to host matches!
You will use option 1 in the Caster to host, and your opponent will go through option 2 using the IP from whatismyip.host.
