Arcana Heart 3/AH3LMSS/Health Modifiers
Characters and Arcanas have HP modifiers. 27200 is the default starting HP. Your starting HP will change depending on the character you choose. In addition, the Arcanas you and your opponent choose will both influence your starting HP.
The Pow ☆ and Def ☆ ratings you see on the Arcana select screen give a rough guide to how much HP you gain/lose (Def ☆) and how much HP your opponent loses/gains (Pow ☆).
The damage you deal to a character is affected by their current HP and their guts properties. In general, when a character has low HP, the damage you deal to them will be reduced. (Exception: the damage you deal to Scharl will increase as her HP decreases.)
Character HP Modifiers and Guts
The table below lists the following for each character:
- HP Modifier - How much the character's HP varies from the default, 27200.
- Base HP - The character's HP before Arcana HP modifiers.
- Guts Threshold - Once HP reaches this %, the character will take reduced damage due to guts. (Scharl will take increased damage.)
- Maximum Guts - At 0 HP, damage is reduced by this much.
- Effective HP - If you hit the character repeatedly with a 500-damage attack, you would have to deal this much damage to them to KO them (not including Arcana HP modifiers).
Heart and Saki both start with the default HP of 27200, plus Arcana HP modifiers.

Technical Details: Guts Formula
The game reduces damage due to guts as follows:
- Compute the character's remaining HP %, rounded up to the next-highest percent.
- Reduce damage dealt to them based on their remaining HP %. Above their Guts Threshold, damage is not reduced.
We're not sure how exactly damage is reduced, however the formula below gives very accurate results:

Note: all %s are expressed as decimals, e.g. 100% is 1.0 and 1% is 0.01. Also, for each percentage value, CEILING and FLOOR round to multiples of 0.01, i.e. to the next highest and lowest percents, respectively.
This formula is based on this Damage After Guts Calculator spreadsheet. It can be used to calculate Effective HP to within about 100 of the actual in-game results. It has not been tested with Scharl's negative guts.
Arcana HP Modifiers
The table below lists the following for each Arcana:
- Attack ☆ - # of "Attack" stars shown on the Arcana select screen. Corresponds to the opponent's HP modifier.
- Defense ☆ - # of "Defense" stars shown on the Arcana select screen. Roughly corresponds to your HP modifier.
- Opp. HP Modifier - How much the opponent's HP varies from the default. Always multiplies 27200, not their character's base HP.
- Opp. HP Change - Add this to the opponent's character's base HP to get their actual HP.
- Your HP Modifier - How much your HP varies from the default. Always multiplies 27200, not your character's base HP.
- Your HP Change - Add this to your character's base HP to get your actual HP.
The Love Arcana is "neutral": does not modify your HP nor the opponent's HP.
(Note: aside from Blood, none of the HP modifiers below have been verified in Six Stars yet: they are guesses from AH3 where the Arcanas had the same Attack and Defense ratings as in Six Stars.)

Technical Details: HP Calculation
To calculate your HP, start at 100%, add your character HP modifier (%), add the modifiers from your Arcana and from the opponent's Arcana (%s), and then multiply by 27200:

Alternatively, you can distribute multiplication over addition to get a simpler formula: start with your character's base HP and add the HP changes from your Arcana and from the opponent's Arcana:
