Akira Yuki

Introduction

Originally from the Sega-AM2 developed arcade series Virtua Fighter. A champion of the second tournament who seeks to know what true strength is. He was unplayable in the pre-console release arcade versions, but he can now be unlocked in the console version if the player finishes Arcade Mode using very few Climax Art finishes. However, Akira has no storyline in neither Arcade nor Dream Duel Mode. He was added to the arcade version via the Version 1.30 update. However for an unknown reason, Akira can be played in Single play Arcade Mode in arcade version, and it is unknown if he has his arcade story or hasn't, just like Labrys (both versions) and Elizabeth in original Persona 4 Arena.

In Ignition, he became a regular character.

Gameplay

Akira is one of the few Shoto type characters in the game, although Akira's is more similar to Capcom's original Shoto character from Street Fighter, Ryu. His moves are references from his series and Dead or Alive 5, except some of their properties are different due to the transition from 3D to 2D fighting. Akira is an unique character to play, and unlike his 3D fighting game versions, he's a beginner-friendly character.

Akira is one of two characters (the other being Rentaro) to have a command move and be able to perform solo air combos without an assist or EX moves (like Kirino and Rentaro etc.). Being a character who doesn't have a projectile, he focuses on short-ranged ground attack punishes, akin to his playstyle in 3D fighting games. Most of his moves' properties are strikes and knockdowns. He is also the only character in Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax to have a step dash.

Before the Version 1.21 console release, he was incomplete, with "Mouko Kouhazan" and "Jouhou Senshou" as his only special moves. His Air C was Renkantai before it downgraded to "Tankyaku/Utankyaku." The "Shura Haoh Koukazan's" first hit was Mouko Kouhazan's and "Teishitsu Dantai" was the only Impact Skill move. Finally, "Hougeki Unshin Soukoshou" didn't have invuln. start-up and was his only Climax Art.

Pros

  • Has many moves with versatile uses, including two Extend Actions.
  • Feels very familiar to fighting game veterans.
  • His step dash allows him to outmaneuver opponents at close range.
  • Has a repeatable normal chain combos when Trump Card is activated.

Cons

  • His step dash can be a liability against zoning characters.
  • Has no projectile move; requires an Assist character who has a projectile with either fast start-up or long-range.

Recommended Assists

Pai Chan - His default assist. You can combo into an untechable launcher.

Dokuro Mitsuaki - during an air combo, Support Cancel 5S from Renkantai to extend combos. Her 5S dive attack provides Akira ample time to perform combo extensions into Climax Arts or to gain meter from a Power-Up Blast.

Potentials

Universal Potential: Increases damage dealt by 10% for 20 seconds when health falls under 30%. If behind in rounds won, increases damage dealt by 20% instead.

Character Potential: Counter hit the opponent twice to increase damage dealt by 10% for 10 seconds. Can be activated three times a round.
