Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax/DFCI/Quenser
Introduction
A young man who aims to be an Object engineer. A commoner and student sent to the frontlines. Shows great promise with his weaponry know-how and quick wit. He meets the "Elite" girl Milinda on the frigid Alaskan battlefield.
Originally from the light novel series Heavy Object.
Gameplay
Quenser is a mixed zoning character with one unique character trait: the ability to deal over half of the opponent’s health with a completely unburstable combo. Taking the term "explosive damage" quite literally, Quenser’s game plan aims to nick opponents with a stray bullet from his partner-in-arms Havia and then convert into an EX move. Quenser's unique Potential allows the EX move follow-up "Bomb Support" to cost no meter, allowing him to deal incredibly massive amounts of pain in short bursts. Getting hit by Quenser hurts and his ability to convert into huge damage from stray hits may surpass even those of the top tier characters.
Pros
- Absolutely devastating damage from virtually any hit provided Quenser has meter.
- Deceptively large normals allow him adequate counterplay to sloppy approaches and for him to open the opponent up himself
- Many combos are 100% unburstable which is arguably better than having Blast-invulnerable combos
- Extremely stable metered combo routes
Cons
- Specials are unwieldy and have large blind spots that can frustrate beginners
- Quenser is the epitome of resource intensive. Deadly routes typically require 5 bars of meter or more, meaning a Combo Blast is required, and typically end in a Red Trump activated via explosion. Likewise, he is not much of a threat without meter
- Has difficulty escaping pressure in the corner
- Difficult match-ups against more traditional zoning characters
Recommended Assists
Iriya - 5S gives you a plate projectile to use for setplay or to help you close in on opponents. 6S is a moped that can be used to punish Blasts or whiffed attacks and force out air options from the foe. Use Iriya's 5S to bait opponents into attacking her and move in with an attack of your own to punish the dinner-crashers.
Mashiro - Mashiro serves as both a potent neutral tool and potentially terrifying setplay. 5S unleashes a murder of baumkuchen that fiendishly roll forward, serving as a projectile to front your approach or as a combo extender. 6S sets out four cats that serve as both ample tick throw and high-low set-ups as well as checks against the opponent’s movement and pokes as you close in.
Froleytia - Froleytia's 5S covers the ground space in front of Quenser with gunfire, but it only stops grounded opponents in their tracks due to its small vertical hitbox. Of more interest to Quenser are Froleytia's 6S tracking missiles which have reliable hitboxes to stop opponents in their tracks and allow him to hit with a stray Havia call or force a Reflection Guard, lest the opponent gets opened up by one of Quenser's air unblockables.
Potentials
Universal Potential: Increases damage dealt by 10% for 20 seconds when health falls under 30%. If behind in rounds won, increases damage dealt by 20% instead.
Character Potential: Have Milinda's cut-in appear once for Attack Level 1 and "Bomb Support" follow-ups do not cost any Climax Gauge for 20 seconds. Can be activated twice a round.
