- What is Hololive and all of this VTuber stuff?
- Hololive is one of the biggest VTuber agencies in the world. They sponsor a wide arrange of streamers in Japanese and English in a way not too different from an idol agency. All of the characters featured in the game are part of said agency. As of what is a Vtuber, it is shorthand for Virtual Youtuber, as in, a content creator who uses a virtual motion-captured avatar to stream instead of their real-life appearance. Some Vtubers are part of agencies while others are independent.
- How can i play Idol Showdown?
- You can download it for free via Steam.
- What is streamer mode?
- Streamer mode disables Steam profile pictures, other people's usernames, and room lobby codes from showing as well as music susceptible to copyright strikes. It automatically activates if OBS is open
- How's the netcode?
- Idol Showdown has rollback netcode developed using the widely popular middleware GGPO, used in multiple other fighting games such as Skullgirls or Fantasy Strike. In short terms, it's really good and so long as neither of you has a spotty connection or notable performance issues, it should play almost as well as playing offline. As of today, there is no matchmaking system implemented, so the closest equivalent is to create your own lobby, setting it public and waiting for someone to join in.
- What's the difference between doing specials with and without motion inputs?
- Specials done with the S button are exactly the same in terms of frame data and damage to their equivalent motion counterpart. However, you don't gain Superchat meter for doing them without motion inputs, which sets you back from doing Superchat cancels and Collab (L+H) assists. Plus, not every special variant can be done with just S inputs, so it's better to practice those motion inputs. You shouldn't ignore the S button either as the other collab assist, your Idol move (which also increases Superchat gauge) and your Super Star move are tied to it.
