Preferably, you will want at least one copy of the game on any platform of your choosing as well as Parsec, which allows you to connect to other computers for the least latency possible when compared to the in-game netcode. Steam is the preferred platform for the game, as it has the largest playerbase, access to modding, and can be hosted via Parsec.

What is the preferred ruleset for this game?

The general format for tournaments is the following:

Timer: 99 seconds
Number of Rounds: 3 (First to 2)
Arena Gimmicks: OFF
Assists: ON

At the end of a match, the loser can change the stage, if they would like.

Why can't I move in any direction I want?

Contrary to what it might seem at a first glance, All-Star Battle R does not possess omnidirectional movement. Instead, characters are locked on a 2D plane, being able to move forward or back, in addition to running, jumping, and stepping into the background/foreground. If you wish to read more about movement options, please check this page.

Is there a video guide that explains this stuff?

Time Stoppers has graciously provided a beginner's guide in video form, explaining the core basics of the game at a universal level. You can watch it down below!

If you're looking for a more in-depth explanation of the game's mechanics, you can read the System page.

What changed from the original All-Star Battle?

There's too many changes between All-Star Battle and All-Star Battle R to mention here, most of them being a lot of character-specific changes and reworks. Below are some of the most notable universal changes:

  • The game now operates at a visual benchmark of 60 frames per second (though the game logic still operates at the original speed of 30 frames per second).
    • This does not apply to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which runs at 30 frames per second in all instances.
  • The universal input buffer system has been tweaked, making it significantly easier to perform links.
  • All attacks feature drastic increases in hitstop, making them easier to react to.
  • Stand-related hurtboxes are now invulnerable against Throws when detached from the Stand User.
  • The Easy Beat system can now be toggled ON/OFF. In addition, the Rotate Cancel bug has been removed.
  • Added Dash-Jumps: a more horizontal type of jump performed by canceling a dash or run into a forward jump.
  • The Rotate ability has been renamed to Dodge, and has been slowed down significantly.
  • Stylish Dodge has been renamed to Stylish Evade. In addition, its window of success has been significantly reduced, and can no longer function if the incorrect Guard direction is input.
  • Added the Stylish Guard mechanic: a universal Command Parry that performs a Stylish Evade if successfully activated.
  • Added the Support Attack system, which allows players to call a secondary character during battle to help them, either offensively or defensively.
  • The game's Infinite Prevention System has been reworked to be limited to 2 uses of a given move, instead of 5. In addition, attacks that land against grounded opponents are now considered to be the same as attacks that land during an opponent's juggle state.
  • Great Heat Attacks now receive a 1.2x damage bonus if performed with at least 2.5 HH Gauges, as well as a 1.5x damage bonus if performed with all 3 HH Gauges. In return, the excess resource will be consumed upon successfully connecting.

Why is [insert element here] named differently on the wiki compared to my game?

On the wiki, we generally adhere to the names used by the community for the characters, Stands and others. For example, while a certain character and his Stand are officially referred to in English as Narciso Anastasia and Diver Drive respectively, 99% of the community refers to both entities as Narciso Anasui and Diver Down, the romanized versions of their respective official Japanese names. The wiki generally avoids usage of localized English names and will use the romanized versions in their stead.

Why are there two versions of Pucci? What's the difference?

In the original All-Star Battle, Enrico Pucci possesses the ability to evolve his Stand during battle: starting with Whitesnake, then evolving into C-MOON, and finally obtaining Made in Heaven. This character, along with content such as the Kennedy Space Center stage, was removed in the transition to All-Star Battle R due to developer concerns over spoilers to the ending of the anime adaptation of Stone Ocean, the sixth part of the series (airing at the time of development). In compensation, this incarnation was promised to be added as part of a post-launch update, and a new version of the character (under the name Enrico Pucci) was included as part of the base game; this version can only use Whitesnake, but features an expanded toolkit and unique abilities to compensate.

True to the developers' word, the original incarnation of Pucci was added as part of the version 1.40 update for the game, along with the aforementioned stage and Weather Report as a bonus. Now rechristened as Enrico Pucci (Final), this version of the character is the one with access to all 3 Stands (and consequently, the only one that can activate Made in Heaven Mode).

For the sake of differentiating between both versions of the character, the base game counterpart is referred to as WS Pucci, while the post-launch inclusion is referred to as Final Pucci.
