JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R/Funny Valentine

From Mizuumi Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Introduction

The main antagonist of Steel Ball Run, the seventh part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Funny Valentine is the 23rd President of the United States of America and the user of the Stand, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (usually referred as D4C).

  • Holy Corpse Parts: Valentine can pick up the Holy Corpse parts, gaining different blessings with each part obtained.
  • D4C -Love Train-: Upon adquiring all of the Holy Corpse parts, Valentine will have enhanced attributes, in addition to immunity to most projectiles.
  • Back from the "other side": At the cost of destroying his Heart Heat Gauge, Valentine can fully heal himself once per match.
Playstyle
JJASBR Valentine Small Icon.png Funny Valentine is a Stand character who operates as a jack-of-all-trades that utilizes his many great tools in a variety of ways to overwhelm his opponents.
Pros Cons
  • Zoning and Anti-Zoning: Valentine has access to some of the best anti-zoning tools in the game, with special moves like "It's merely self-defense." and "A gift from the other side.". He also has no problems getting in on zoners with his invincible DP, "Hiding in the next dimension.".
  • Self-Reliant: Valentine has tools for almost every situation and can do most of his own combos without requiring specific assists.
  • Knockdown Escape: Valentine can escape hard knockdowns through "Hiding in the next dimension." at the cost of 1 bar, both allowing him to escape OTG hits and okizeme with ease, and granting him a unique way to prevent dropping the Holy Corpse parts. This makes some matchups against opponents that rely on their OTG and oki setups a lot easier to manage.
  • D4C -Love Train-: While active, Valentine takes less damage from all sources and is invincible to most projectiles, making some matchups really one-sided in his favor.
  • Inconsistent Combo Damage: Some of Valentine's higher damage combo routes require specific timings to execute correctly, especially if D4C -Love Train- is active.
  • Lackluster HHA: Valentine's HHA tends to be outclassed by his other defensive tools. Its purely defensive nature also means Valentine cannot use it as a combo ender, often leaving him short in terms of damage output.
  • Bad Pressure: Valentine doesn't have many ways to apply pressure. His mix-ups are also very committal, usually requiring additional meter spending to make them true and/or safe.

Holy Corpse

Owing to his status as a Steel Ball Run character, whenever Valentine is one of the combatants, three parts of the Holy Corpse will spawn over time across the stage. Valentine can collect these parts by crouching on top of them (whether in Stand Off or Stand On); Holy Corpse parts collected will be carried over between rounds. Each part collected provides Valentine with a buff that lasts until said part is lost via being knocked down, which drops the most recent part collected. Only 3 Holy Corpse parts will spawn during the match, so if two Steel Ball Run characters (Johnny, Gyro, Diego, AW Diego, or another Valentine) happen to face each other, they'll be forced to fight for them.

For Valentine, the buffs applied are the following:

  • JJASBR Corpse Parts Icon (1).png One: Valentine receives less Guard Damage.
  • JJASBR Corpse Parts Icon (2).png Two: Damage taken is reduced by 10%.
  • JJASBR Corpse Parts Icon (3).png Three: D4C -Love Train- triggers.

D4C -Love Train-

Upon obtaining all three of the Holy Corpse parts, D4C -Love Train- activates, denoted by a golden glow surrounding Valentine. While active, Valentine becomes immune to all non-HHA/GHA projectiles and traps, so long as he is not in hitstun (meaning projectiles and traps will work if they are used mid-combo); this allows him to approach much more confidently. D4C -Love Train- also enhances Valentine's defense (reducing damage taken by 25%), grants new properties to his Stand On special moves, and increases his Stylish Evade window.
