Backstory

Before Max was born, his father was a feared captain of the seven seas and his mother was the daughter of the captain of the navy. They got together but could not reveal their love. However, when Max and his sister Jackie were born, word broke out and the navy captain went to war with the pirates. Because of this, both his mother and father had to go into this war and leave him and Jackie with the bartender that his father drank at. A few months later, his father's ship came back but his parents were nowhere to be seen.

From that point, Max and Jackie worked at the bar and did what kids usually do, until one day when Max was getting picked on by some people, and at this time he had no powers so he was basically helpless against them. Thankfully, a guy in an army uniform came around and sent the bullies running. This gave Max the motivation to join the army. From there he trained himself up and was good with the athletic stuff, however, the sergeant had other ideas for him.

The sergeant and some scientists for the army were experimenting with puffball DNA to give powerless puffballs powers so they could weaponize the puffballs. Max was put into this experiment without his consent and was experimented on for months. His powers did start to activate from there, in fact, they were getting a little bit out of control after a while, so the scientists also made a special helmet to lock off the powers when they didn't need to see them, needing a key-card at the back of the helmet to activate. Unfortunately, this limit was being broken too, eventually leading to max being able to summon two items at max with it.

From there, he plotted his escape and either injured or killed those who tried to stop his escape. He then went to the bar and found a note from the bartender, saying that the ship was going to go to Max in the event of his passing or disappearance when he got old enough. Max used this opportunity to follow in his dad's footsteps and sail the seven seas for treasure with a new crew.

Gameplay

Playstyle
KBB Max Icon.png Max is a character that excels at pressuring opponents with his items from afar, before rushing in with a dangerous onslaught.
Pick if you like Avoid if you dislike
  • Good Damage Max has some very high damage output both meterless and especially with meter, which lets him punish the opponent heavily.
  • Amazing Oki All of Max's specials are great for Oki and when used together, with cannon and bomb, can make getting out of the corner very hard for Max's opponents.
  • Excellent Mixups J.5C followed by a 2A help this, but Max aso has access to a good amount of versatility when using his Air normals with IAD, letting him crossup opponents or extend block strings in unpredictable ways.
  • Some Very Debilitating MatchUps Characters like Clutch(J.2B which kinda beats everyone, but hurts Max especially by oppressing the air) and Glitch(Removes access to his specials, which makes Max extremely weak) are extremely poor matchups for Max which will be hard to get by.
  • Bad Disadvantage State Max has some trouble getting out of disadvantage on wakeup or in the corner, mostly due to a lack of a fast catch-all move that he can rely on.
  • Trouble Getting In Meterlessly Max has trouble getting in on opponents without his Cannon(5C) or his Bomb(2C) So if you're low on meter, you're gonna be in some trouble.

Roadmap

17% complete
In Progress / Completed To-do
  • Basic stuff like the landing page and navbox is in, along with some system pages.
  • System page is complete.
  • Clean up and finish the rest of the character pages. Every page needs to be updated to account for changes in updates 2.0 to 2.4.
  • Create netplay page.
  • Update FAQ
  • Add patch-notes from 2.1 to 2.4.
  • Finish adding frame data to every page, and begin adding hit-boxes to every page. Glitch is currently the gold standard in the gameplay section, hitboxes aside. (Avoid doing Violet's at all costs however!)
  • When Adding Hitboxes: Only take images from Fighter Factory. This is to keep the look of the hitboxes clean!
  • Ensure that this chart is updated over time.
