• What is Magical Battle Arena NEXT?

Magical Battle Arena NEXT (abbreviated MBANext or simply MBAN) is the 2017 update to Magical Battle Arena, a doujin arena fighter created by Area-Zero, a game making and music arrangement studio. It features 17 characters, including 8 Touhou characters, 8 characters from Magical Girl series, and one original character. It has similar gameplay to other games by Area-Zero, like Touhou Sky Arena, while containing its own unique set of mechanics and characters.

• How hard is this game?

Execution wise, this game tends to be on the easier side, with generous hitstun and intuitive movement options. Some characters do require more precision for those who want to get the most of their every hit, but that is the extent of it. When it comes to neutral decision-making, the game can be hard to keep up with at first; there is a lot of split second decision-making and reactions involved, but it's something players can get used to pretty quickly.

• Is there a tier list?

There is a vague idea of where each character belongs, but the game is ultimately underdeveloped. Come discuss and play with us and we'll find out!

Technical Help

• The entire game is in Japanese. How do I set up and navigate it?

The Configuration and Menus pages will help you navigate the configuration executable and the game's various screens.

• I tried hosting a netplay game and nobody could join. What did I do wrong?

You need to port forward whichever port you use to host - by default, 18000 - or use a service like Hamachi to simulate a LAN connection with the other player.

• Some of the audio channels have gone mute in my game. How do I fix it without reopening the game?

The issue where either music, sound effects or voice tracks stop being audible can be fixed by ALT+TABbing out then back into the game.

Community

• Where do I find footage?

Your best bet is to look on Niconico for footage, as the game is way more popular in Japan. If you can't navigate Niconico, using Google video search works pretty well.

• Are there any tournaments?

As of right now, there are no regular tournaments. However, the Discord server is planning a monthly netplay tournament series.
