Deidara

CONR3 Deidara.png
Health: 10,000
Guard Gauge: 10,000
LNP Activation %: 20%
Damage Modifier: 1x

Main Strengths

  • Great zoning with being able to have multiple manually detonatable explosive summons on the play area that launch full map distance on hit.
  • Strong close-range pressure with his great B string, summons taking off 1 gauge guaranteed when blocked, summons protecting Deidara and restarting his pressure after otherwise risky options and even having instant guard breaks on manual detonations.
  • Good mix-up game including skewed strike/throw/RPS scenarios with summons that lead to situations such as hard punishing the opponent for correctly using defensive options. Deidara also has access to numerous cross-up options with j.B, 5BBBBA, running SS / 6A with spiders out, or unblockable point blank 8A bug.
  • Guaranteed damage/checkmate scenarios as okizeme with meaty spider summons into unblockable Paper Bombs or cross-up 6A.
  • Gets full combos from every hit into great combo routes, including multiple infinites that can also double as timer scams.
  • LNP makes summons cost no chakra, removing the only limiting factor of them.
  • All substitutions, even LKnJ, leave behind a bomb that on hit either leads into strong combos or allows Deidara to stay safe after a baited KnJ. Counter KnJ after the opponent does KnJ on Deidara is strong as a result.
  • Clay spider summons persisting even when Deidara is hit or blocking constantly breaks Deidara out of defending blockstrings and combos that he otherwise wouldn't be able to escape, while requiring no commitment from him. Also punishes opponents for what would otherwise be proper counterplay such as hitting them out of their reversal throws or KnJs.
  • 4B is safe/returns to neutral on block due to being able to string into 6A.

Additional Notes

Latent Ninja Power
  • LNP activates at 20% health remaining and grants these buffs:
    • Clay bomb summons no longer cost Chakra.
    • The clay spider bomb created by ForwardStrong Attack crawls if it hits the ground, instead of exploding on contact.
Other
  • All clay bomb summons persist even if Deidara gets hit by or blocks an attack. This includes Throws and Throw Breaks. The only exception is cinematic supers (such as Special Jutsu).
  • Both of Deidara's KnJs are unique in that, upon use, they leave behind an explosive upon use. On hit, it launches the opponent like a Paper Bomb.
  • Deidara's (behind obstacle) Weak Attack and Strong Attack are his ForwardWeak AttackWeak Attack(Weak Attack) and Weak AttackWeak Attack(Strong Attack) respectively.
    • This version of Weak AttackWeak Attack(Strong Attack) is a separate move that cannot be Charge, but is still affected by Deidara's Latent Ninja Power.

Basic Rev3 jab, is safe on block and is tied with 8B for Deidara's fastest button at 15F, so is typically used for mashing and punishes.

2B

DownWeak Attack

472 17 - - - 20 - -26 -
  • Launches horizontally on hit
  • Super cancellable

Deidara punts the opponent. On hit, it launches them a very far distance and can be cancelled into clay summons to set up zoning afterward. On block, it's uncancellable and thus easily punishable.

4B

BackWeak Attack

551 29 - - - 33 Launch -7 -
  • Horizontal launcher
  • Leaves Deidara backturned

Deidara turns around and takes a step away from the opponent before back kicking them. His 4B is very slow to come out, but if it does connect with an opponent its both safe and stringable on block, and on hit launches the opponent almost the full play area's distance away from him. Use varies based on matchup as a result due to 4B having a tendency to whiff against some strings, taking forever to recover and also being easily punishable with a back throw or unblockable jab, which can be fatal versus some characters.

  • Can cross-up the opponent

Deidara flash steps forward into the air and throws a spider down to the ground. 6A is a valuable part of his zoning game as he's able to unblockable opponents who are blocking spiders midscreen with it, or teleport through opponents who are rushing him and continue zoning from behind. It's also typically safe on block due to the distance left between Deidara and the opponent.

Deidara's Latent Ninja Power will prevent the spider from exploding instantly, instead crawling upon reaching the ground. This particular spider has much better tracking than all others, being able to turn around instantly and even tracking after the opponent sidesteps.

  • Low profiles starting from frame 24

Deidara places a clay spider that crawls across the ground, tracking the opponent's position and continuing until it hits an object or expires. Deidara's bread & butter to his character and a massive reason as to why he's so oppressive in this game.

Deidara's spiders are effectively walking Paper Bombs for 1/5th of the cost and do all the same things that they do, plus more. They can zone, counter-zone, start and extend combos, and apply decent pressure on block and on okizeme. Spiders that are already active and nearby Deidara can also function as cheap, no-commitment defensive threats as they can crawl over and hit the opponent as they pressure his block, or even break him out of their combos as they don't ever go away for a relatively long time, even if Deidara gets hit or is forced to block. All of these traits are amazing on their own, but to make matters even worse, they can be spammed at very low cost for most of the round or even for free once Deidara is in LNP, with low risk nor commitment aside from the summon animation (whose recovery can be cut short with the command sidestep).
