Bontenmaru, also known as "The Oda Nobunaga of the North" or "The One-Eyed Dragon" is one of the four great samurai of the Shiseiten and specializes in Taijutsu Techniques. Like most, he seeks to conquer the world. Bontenmaru is a kind and humurous man, often being very friendly with both those close to him and his rivals, including Kyo but despite this, he stores within him chains of emotional torment from being forced to mercilessly kill his parents and younger brother in order to become a shogun. In the present, he treats it as a necessary act that was required for the eventual globalization of the Date name.


In SDK, Bontenmaru fits the big-bodied grappler archetype. He features big hurtboxes, fat damage and of course, some of that good tick grab action. Unfortunately, the character is not the best at approaching, but when he gets in, he REALLY gets in.

  • Command Grab range is utterly incredible
  • Hiougi Grab is a Km length and cannot be avoided after super flash. It also grabs pre-jump frames.
  • No DP is made up for with an extremely vertical reactive AA and a High Invul attack.
  • High Damage Output
  • Over-average Health value
  • A conglomerate of overheads to choose from, including a raw one.
  • Strings made specifically made to fit his Grappler-based gameplay.
  • Great meter building
  • Can't link into Hiougi.
  • Forward Dash is slower than most.
  • Getting in is a big issue for him especially when fighting zoners.
  • Projectile doesn't go full-screen.

Bontenmaru Grinds the ground with his fists twice, forcing a rock above the ground then crumbling it with his next punch. The stone crush makes a good AA if only it weren't locked behind so much startup.

Bontenmaru extends his leg forward while sliding toward the opponent. He then raises his leg and crashes it onto the opponent's skull, putting them in a sweep state when hit.. They do not combo into each other.

He reaches his palm out and produces a projectile that quickly disappeares. This is his safest ranged option and makes for a good combo ender. Use it in neutral or to mix things up on hit so the opponent doesn't always see a tick grab coming.

Bonenmaru enters a confident stance, then rushes toward the opponent and crushes them between his fists. The stance he enters intially has high hitbox invulnerability making it a pretty decent option against air attacks. The forward movement afterwards goes farther than his 5S as well, but he is fully vulnerable during it.

Bontenmaru grabs the opponent and flips them into the air before slamming them onto the ground. THE COMMAND GRAB. Your going to be using this a lot for tick grabs obviously. The range on this command grab is better than every grab in this game except for his own super, it iss also a 1f attack!!! Hitting this grab will cause knockdown and can lead to a grab vortex or whatever Bontenmaru prefers.

Whiffing this attack will lead to a short whiff animation but its nothing too big.

A slower version of his 5S however it now can be chained into whatever normal comes next as well as is Special Cancellable. If the opponent chooses to respect this by blocking you can punish them with a garunteed hit. (5L 2H 5H for Low and 5L 2H 2H 2L for High) Blocking this High is much scarier because it means a juggle combo rather than a stray punishable overhead.
