Shaman King: Spirit of Shamans/Menu Navigation

From Mizuumi Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Shaman King: Spirit of Shamans never had a localized release, and as such, the Japanese version is the only version of the game that exists with no language settings available. This can make navigating the menus quite difficult when you're new to the game, but this page will translate and guide through the functions of the menus. This page will list the modes scrolling right.

Main Menu

Yoh Asakura - The Road to King

麻倉葉〜キングへの道

SKSOS ShamanStory Icon.png

The main 1P Story Mode of the game. You play as Yoh Asakura, following him through a very loose retelling of the main Shaman King story, while playing mini-games along the way to grow your power.

Shaman Fight

シャ一マンファイ

SKSOS Arcade Icon.png

The classic 2D fighter Arcade mode. Pick a character and then beat up a randomly selected line-up of CPU opponents until you reach the end. Useful for practice and testing characters against multiple opponents.

Versus / Friendly Battle

とモだちバトル

SKSOS Versus Icon.png

The classic Versus mode. You can choose to either fight against a player locally, or with the CPU.

Last Stand Sudden Death

ふんばリサドンデス

SKSOS SuddenDeath Icon.png

Last Stand mode, where matches are only a single round and you only get a single health-bar which slowly refills with every round. The mode ends after 10 rounds in a row and you'll be rewarded with your character's ending.

Great Friend Trio Mode

なかよしトリオ

SKSOS 3V3 Icon.png

A variant of the Versus mode, where you can pick a team of 3 characters and when one gets KO'd, the match reloads and your second/third character comes in. Little bit botched by the load times, but still a pretty fun mode.

Practice Modes

なんとかなふトレ一ニング

Selecting this mode pulls up a list of four options, which are all some form of mode meant for practicing things in the game including the classic "beat-up-a-neverending-dummy" Training Mode. Selection starts at the last one by default.

  • Training Mode

なんとかなる

The classic training mode and what you'll probably come into the menu the most for. Has a couple of training settings, like setting the dummy to Jump/Crouch/Attack, and setting yourself to low HP for testing supers.

  • Funbari Master

Anna's Body Training

アン十の修美

SKSOS AnnaMinigame Icon.png

This mode brings you to a different menu where you can select one of the multiple mini-games from the Story Mode to play, without having to play through the entire mode.

Manta's House

まん太の部屋

SKSOS Options Icon.png

This mode also brings you to a different... "menu", where you can change around various settings via furniture and appliances in Manta's room. You can move around the little angel cursor with the D-pad, and select by pressing Circle/Strong Attack. This "menu" is very strange at first glance, so here's a guide to all the different settings and places you can click on in this menu:

Manta's House Options

Manta's House, also known as the Options menu. He's got a lot of furnishing!
  • 0: Door/Exit; you use this to leave the Options menu. Pretty self explanatory.
  • 1: Vibration Chair; you can change Controller Vibration to be on or off here, and P1/P2 can change their setting separately. Unknown if this works as not many PSX emulators emulate the rumble functionality.
  • 2: Bookshelf; Difficulty settings for the CPU opponents can be changed here. You can change it to one of 5 settings:

Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard and Very Hard.

Each setting adds 2 books to the Bookshelf with Very Hard filling it all the way... and also changes the difficulty, of course.

  • 3: Lone Book; this lets you save or load savedata. Very useful on the original hardware, but maybe not so much elsewhere.
  • 4: TV; lets you adjust the screen. Move around with the D-pad and save with Circle. Pretty self explanatory, also might not be as useful as it was intended to be.
  • 5: Stereo Set-up; here, you can change audio settings like Voice volume and Music volume. Very useful if you want to turn off the music while practicing.
  • 6: Digital Clock; here you can adjust how long you want the timer to be in Versus matches. By default at 30(?), and can be set to 90 or infinite at most.
  • 7: Laptop; adjust controller button mapping here. Not much more to add.
  • 8: Plant Vase; you can change the round amount per match here, from 1 to 5. 3 Is default.
  • 9: Light switch; this button lets you reset everything to default. Bottom selection is 'No', Top selection is 'Yes'.

Using the door to leave after adjusting settings saves changes made to the Memory Card/Memory Card file.
