Assist Strategies

Big Band benefits from assists that move forward and keep him safe when done in conjunction with H Brass or other moves that are dangerous to whiff/block by itself.

  • Example: L George (Peacock), L Napalm Shot (Parasoul), L Love Dart (Fukua), H Theonite Beam (Robofortune)

Big Band benefits from an assist that lets him combo off SSJ, his 2f startup reversal

  • Example: H Pinion (Painwheel)

DHCs

  • The last hit of Super Sonic Jazz sends the opponent flying backwards at an incredibly high trajectory, making it hard for some characters to DHC after the final hit.
  • SSJ is a great follow up DHC with its high damage, can help you win DHC Wars as well. SSJ is amazing reversal, so Big Band appreciates have a safe DHC backing him up. Big Bands's level three super does great damage as well, but take notice of your positioning, as being close to and facing the corner can reduce the damage of the super.

Midscreen

Universal

  • Rather difficult midscreen combo. Does about 700 more than the solo midscreen optimal.
  • If last air string doesn't restand them, stick to a safer ender string like 2LPx2 2MK 5HK [4]6HK.

Corner

Universal

  • Staple corner combo, does ~1200 more than optimal solo routes. Very high damage.
  • Need to have LNL hit right after brass.

Midscreen

Universal

  • Optimal conversion from instant overhead midscreen.
  • Difficult, but amazing damage. LNL shines much brighter here than in normal midscreen routes.
  • Getting the OTG 2HK on Band is possible through high-hitting 2MK and delayed jHP.
  • Last air string will do less damage on smaller characters.

Excellebella

Excella isn't Band's best assist, but it is one of the few assists that lets him get taunt anywhere. Its brutal 33% scaling means you don't want to use it early.

Remember, you can't build taunt and use it in the same combo, so Excella lends itself better to two-touch setups than ToDs.

Two touches are typically structured in one of these 3 ways:

  • build taunt in first hit, use Excella for damage only in second hit, then keep taunt for the next character
  • build taunt in first hit, use Excella for damage only in second hit, then taunted SSJ to DHC
  • build taunt in first hit, use taunted Tympany in second hit and then build the taunt again.

  • Staple midscreen combo. Builds taunt and does more damage than any solo midscreen route.
  • Call assist around the same time as inputting the second 5MK.
  • Can use Excella for a side swap instead of taunt, just walk/ebrake to the other side.

  • Staple corner combo. Builds taunt and does more damage than any solo corner route.
  • If you already have taunt, change out L Brass for H Brass which does ~500 more damage. Whiff one special for meter (like 623LP) instead of taunting.
  • You can still get taunt with M Brass on lights/mediums, but the timing is very strict and it's probably not worth it.

  • Corner combo that lets you offload a taunt you have previously built, then builds it again.
  • Hit 2MPx2 high up and delay as little as possible, you don't want to restand them before L Brass.
