Super Smash Bros. Crusade/Stages
A stage (ステージ, Stage), also called a level, map, arena, stadium, or board, is a location in which characters fight or complete objectives. The word "stage" refers to the entire loaded location, but can also refer to the ground or large central platform within the level. Though versus mode stages are the most commonly recognized and utilized, single-player mode stages such as Race to the Finish or Trophy Collector exist as well for purposes other than fighting others.
Versus Mode Stages
Most versus mode stages in each of the Super Smash Bros. series games are available from the start, though a small number must first be unlocked by completing certain objectives or by pressing F8 on the game's Title Screen. Most stages are derived from places in playable characters' universes, but there's some derived from those without.
Stages range in size from the large Hyrule Temple to the small Smashville. Typically, stages involve a large central platform with ledges, multiple smaller platforms, and blast lines above, below, and to the left and right of the visible area. Some stages, such as Excitebike Course, have floors that continue past the edge of the visible area and pass through a side blast line. These edges are known as "walk-off edges" or "walk-offs" because characters can walk offscreen without the need to become airborne.
Due to system limitations scrolling stages like Pac-Land, Rainbow Cruise or Icicle Mountain are not available in the game. Similarly, Transforming stages like Delfino Plaza, Castle Siege or Pokemon Stadium are either not available or have their transformations cut entirely.
Other stage elements include breakable barriers and platforms, such as the brick blocks of Mushroom Kingdom; Stage hazards and enemies, such as Excitebike Racers, Space Invaders, and Bumpers; and interactive objects such as warp pipes.
While water and ladders are not featured in a meaningful way, fighters do have unused Swimming and Climbing animations.
There's an incomplete feature where the appearance of some items differs depending on the aesthetic style of the stage they appear on.
Some stages are banned in competitive play because they are considered disruptive, unfair, or unbalanced. See Competitive Ruleset.

Modded Stages
The simplest form of Stage modding is through the addition of custom music. To add your own music do the following:
1) Open your "SSBC 0.9.4" Folder
2) Go to the "Music" subfolder
3) Enter any of the available Folders. Each represents an area of the game:
bonus | used in "Break the Targets", "Board the Platforms" and "Race to the Finish" |
---|---|
classicclear | used as the victory fanfare in Classic Mode. |
credits | used in the credits stage where players hit names with their fighter. |
masterhand | used in the last stage of Classic Mode against Master Hand and/or CrazyHand. |
menu | used in the menu screens where players navigate the game. |
metal | used in Classic Mode where players fight against an opponent with the permanent "Metal" effect. |
multiman | used in Classic Mode where players fight against the "Multi-sprite" enemies |
nocontest | used whenever a "No Contest" is triggered in a Versus Match |
online | used in the online menu screens where players wait to connect with opponents. |
other | Jingles used for things like Classic, Unlockables and others. Not recommended to change in anyway. |
results | Used in the results screen after a match ends and the Victory jingle has played out |
stage | used as stage specific Stage themes. There's one for every stage in the game. |
suddendeath | used in a fight whenever "Sudden Death" is triggered |
versus | used as character specific "Versus Themes". Filename needs to start with the character's bin name |
victory | used as franchise specific Victory Jingles. Folders with bin names can be made for character specific ones. |
4) Users can then remove or add music files.

It is possible to mod stages into the game. The process is as follows:
1)
2)
3)
If played online, both players need to have the same Stage Folder and sss.txt file or the game will desync upon loading. Custom music does not affect online play.
Trivia
-For version 0.9.4, 20 New stages were added into the game.
