Pressure

  • 5B: 0 on block and moves Gordeau forward. Excellent tool to enforce rock-paper-scissors (RPS) with. One of Gordeau's best offensive tools.
  • 22A: +7 on block. Pressure reset/frametrap tool. Refer to the 22A gap tables to see the gaps when cancelled into. Commonly frame traps into 3C, 66C, 623B and 2B, 66B, 4B, 5B at closer ranges.
  • 5A: -1 Standing Low. Used to force opponents to lowblock and is also Gordeau's fastest button. Lacks range but allows for tick throws into 214A to catch shielding or to condition.
  • 4B: Infamous hurtbox retraction move. Very good at checking and beating low range low options while not having foot invul properties. Button to stagger into and from. -2 on block with a decent stagger window. Natural 1f gap into 236A and 5C. One of Gordeau's best starters, especially in the corner.

Okizeme

236x6x6x and command grab ender leaves Gordeau insanely plus and right next to the opponent while stealing GRD. From this position he can force the opponent to guess on wakeup and start his pressure

623B6B was a new ender added in Clr. It has less plus frames on knockdown but still allows Gordeau to keep some of his momentum. Used to return to neutral midscreen as it puts Gordeau around his 236A/5C ranges. Deals more damage on average allows for similar okizeme as 236A when used in the corner at the cost of not stealing GRD.

Gordeau can use meaty 2C to catch backdashes and mashes at the same time and 4AA to catch mashing while still blocking VO. Gordeau's Assimilation (214A) can also be used as a meaty as a conditioning/RPS tool to steal GRD and put more pressure on the opponent. Making opponents guess between a command grab or a button is a core part of Gordeau's okizeme game. 22A can also be super cancelled on whiff allowing Gordeau to dp on reaction to an opponent's superflash on wakeup, and is a fantastic starter in the corner.

Gimmicks

tools that have situational, limited, or questionable usage

Offensive Option Selects

  • 4AA: universal VO block OS. Gordeau's smart steer is very strong in general since 5B is 0 on block. Use this to bait VOs on wakeup or a VO after a 5B no cancel.
  • 236A~623C: Anti VO and Backdash OS. requires a specific timing to pull off. You should do 623C after mortal slide's first hit but before the second. This causes the 623C input to turn into Shadow Harvest on block and on hit, which can be detrimental at close range. if the 236A whiffs, either do to VO or a well timed backdash, the 623C comes out as a guarenteed punish. 623C has to be slightly delayed to beat VO when done close to the opponent. Useful after 66C or 4B since it is a natural 1f gap.
  • 236A~DD: similar to the OS above, but allows for a greater punish if the opponent VOs as it can be shielded and punished on reaction. Costs vorpal to do but will not waste CS if the opponent blocks the 236A and will not force Gordeau to go into Shadow Harvest.
  • 6AA-623B/C: Anti backdash OS. 623B should be inputted immediately after the 5AA but before the animation of 5B comes out. The timeframe is quite small to pull this off. A successful 6AA-623B/C will cause Gordeau to do 5A 5B on block or on hit and a 5Aw 623B/C if the opponent backdashes. 623B is a safer option if you fear messing it up but will not catch fast backdashes like Gordeau's or Hyde's, for that 623C is needed.
  • 4BB: VO block OS but with a better starter. Harder to do as the timing is less forgiving. More rewarding if you get a hit, but leaves you with an awkward combo.
  • 3C-236A: Offensive 3C confirm OS. The 236A will only come out if the 3C lands a hit on the opponent, allowing for a free combo confirm with little hassle.

Defense

how to defend against, break, or escape pressure

Reversal Tools

  • 623C is an invincible, midscreen reversal that comes out frame 7. Can be used to punish a lot of moves on block that normally cannot be punished due to their long ranges. Examples include Byakuya's 66C, Hyde's 6B and Mika's 5BB.
  • 22C: highest damaging reversal by itself. Can lead to combos if done as an anti air or when the opponent is in the corner. inconsistent when used as an anti air. Can also be used to confirm off 623B areal hits.
  • 214C: long range command grab invincible reversal. Useful to catch people sleeping or players who are not ready to react to the correct superflash. Hard to deal with but not guarenteed. On hit can be used to "corpse hop" or jump over the opponent for a side swap while still allowing for okizeme. Has deceptively long range and can catch opponent's extended hurtboxes for janky looking results.
  • tk j236C: not a real reversal when done on wakeup, as Gordeau has to go through his jump startup frames to get this move out. Once Gordeau jumps he is strike and throe invul from frames 1-13, but not head invul. Can work as a get off me tool while still leaving Gordeau +8 on block. Can whiff completely if the opponent whiffs with correct timing, although the timing is strict. Good option after a neutral CS to demand respect at the cost of 100 meter.

Option Selects

  • 2C~AD: Anti air throw OS that also catches backdashes. Normally the go-to throw OS for any Gordeau player. Slow head invulnerability at frame 14-18 makes it susceptible to being stuffed by fast areal moves.
  • 4AB~D: Universal backdash throw OS. More Useful due to Gordeau's fantastic backdash.
  • 1FF~AD: Force Function anti air throw OS that also catches backdashes. not as useful as 2C since it loses to run up low block. has faster head invulnerability at frame 10-26 and 8-23 (when in vorpal).
