Playstyle

Abeldy is a power-type character, with large, far-reaching normals and Skills using her scythe. By slashing her opponents with her scythe, Abeldy gradually fills up her Blood Gauge, entering Killing Mode once the Blood Gauge is completely filled and gaining access to her Original Action for extra bursts of damage both before and after using her Skills. To offset the wide range of her attacks and the additional power afforded by Killing Mode, Abeldy has relatively low movement speed, and a lot of her attacks have high recovery times; while she can control a lot of space, she will struggle against more agile opponents that can use keepaway tactics to stall her out.


Strengths Weaknesses
  • Huge range covered by her normals and Skills. Abeldy can easily cover and control significant portions of the screen thanks to the sheer size of her hitboxes.
  • Additional combo conversion and damage power from Original Actions in Killing Mode. Abeldy can cancel out of her 5O with Skills, and the Skills can be canceled out of with 22O if you have 50% Skill Gauge to burn.
  • HP regeneration via scythe moves gives her a bigger healthpool. Abeldy can mitigate damage she takes to a certain degree by consistently landing scythe moves and using them to regain HP. This lets her act as a tough defensive wall by virtue of outlasting the opponent.
  • Long recovery times on most of her moves. The tradeoff for Abeldy's screen coverage is that many of her normals and specials have long recovery times. Missing one can result in getting punished.
  • Requires Killing Mode for big, non metered damage. While she can still hit hard outside of Killing Mode, her most potent combos come from having Crimson Harvest and Crimson Despair available as extenders for her combos.
  • Slow movement speed. Abeldy is not a fast character, which makes it harder to deal with keepaway playstyles that try to entice her to attempt a chase, or being zoned out and having a hard time getting in on opponents that can contest her space control from outside of her range.

Original Abilities Overview

Abeldy's two passive Original Abilities work in tandem with each other. Bloody Doll allows her to absorb HP from scythe attacks when they hit the opponent, and will also fill up the Blood Gauge as long as it's not completely filled. The Blood Gauge does not fill up if a scythe attack hits a downed opponent.

Once the Blood Gauge is filled up, Abeldy's Killing Doll passive will engage Killing Mode, signified by the Blood Gauge changing shape and a red aura surrounding Abeldy. During Killing Mode, Abeldy can use Crimson Harvest and Crimson Despair until her Blood Gauge has drained out and she exits Killing Mode, but her scythe attacks will not absorb HP or fill up the Blood Gauge while Killing Mode is active.

While it's similar to Crimson Harvest at first glance, Crimson Despair also adds in an extra burst at the end that fills the Blood Gauge back up, extending Killing Mode. It can even be used after Crimson Harvest hits, making it a good clutch option for extending the threat of Killing Mode.

Abeldy raises a pillar of blood about halfway across the screen. If it hits, she drowns the opponent in it, then catches them with a powerful scythe slash. This Finish Skill will engage Killing Mode with a full Blood Gauge if it isn't already active, or refill the Blood Gauge if Killing Mode is already active; while this makes it incredibly useful for getting Abeldy's engine going, it has to be spaced properly to hit at all, since it doesn't track the opponent's position and will whiff if Abeldy is too close to the opponent.
