Overview

In the hands of Zeon pilot Ramba Ral, the Gouf would prove to be a formidable foe for Amuro Ray and the Gundam during the One Year War and would go on to become a mainstay of Zeon forces, with plenty of variants being developed over time. In EX Revue Gouf's playstyle is very reminiscent of Street Fighter's Dhalsim, using the heat rod to attack the opponent from far away. Gouf also has a very floaty jump compared to the rest of the cast, and features attacks that allow Gouf to change his trajectory in midair.

Playstyle
Pros Cons
  • Long Disjoints: Gouf has some crazy disjoints, making it very easy to stuff buttons safely from long range.
  • Gets Around Zoning: Gouf has some easy ways to get under a good amount of fireballs either through his Sand Warp teleport or using 2B to slide under them.
  • Few Combos: Gouf has a hard time with combos making him have to rely on stray hits to kill.
  • Bad Movement: Gouf’s movement speed is incredibly slow and his jump is extra floaty, leading to some awkward situations if he has to run.

A roundhouse kick

f.B

A longer, more active but less disjointed poke. Also whiffs on crouching characters.

Gouf does two swings of the heat rod. This normal has very large hitboxes but there's a big gap between the two hits. It has some use as an anti-air, but timing is tricky.

f.C

This useful attack hits further than half a stage. Still whiffs on crouching characters.

2A

Fast, low kick.

2B

Sliding kick. Can low profile many attacks.

cl.2C

Like 2B but does more damage and causes knockdown, even shares 2B's hitboxes.

One of Gouf's best buttons. The long reach allows for this sweep to punish a lot of things that would be safe against the rest of the cast. Knocks down as the cherry on top.

Jumping Normals

j.A

Air knee. Hitbox extends a little lower than the foot. Lasts until you land.

j.B

- high - - - - - -

Air kick. Hitbox extends behind both legs. Best used for contesting jump-ins or crossing up opponents.

j.2B
GEXR gouf j2b.PNG

- high - - - - - -

Like j.A but moves you forward and has a bigger hitbox. If this attack is done while rising it moves Gouf further upwards, but if done while falling it moves Gouf further downwards. Very useful for getting past fireballs Gouf might land on or punish oorly spaced air buttons and anti-airs.

Great jump-in button with a long reach, but the surprisingly small coverage means it's not that hard for this button to whiff at specific ranges. If timed correctly such that only the lower hurtbox of an opponent, this will count as a low.

Specials

Shotgun

Average fireball. The button pressed makes it slightly faster. The fireball will whiff when done too close to the corner.

Extends the heat rod with electricity. Large and long hitbox. Causes a knockdown.

Sand Warp

Gouf dives into the ground then jumps out and attacks with knee. Invincible on startup. Where you come out depends on what button you press. Causes knockdown. A - Left of screen B - Middle of screen (Slightly left) C - Right of screen. Gouf can be grabbed before the hitbox becomes active, so against more experienced players this attack may backfire.
