Story

Gameplay

Brocken Jr. is a fast, fundamentals-based character, with good pokes and counter-pokes to play a strong neutral game with. Many of his pokes can combo into a special, for more damage and knockdown. This puts an emphasis on hit-confirming for his neutral game. That said, Brocken’s moveset is also conducive to being on the offensive, as his quick strings act as good pressure tools, and his forward-moving attacks let him approach the opponent. Brocken wants to play his neutral game, get a good hit that lets him get in and then start his pressure.

Brocken’s main weakness is his damage output, which is on the lower end. This is especially true for his juggle combos; Brocken can do meter-heavy, optimized combos in the corner, but he would likely still get out-damaged by the day 1 bnb of a higher damage-rating character with an air throw. This is not a crippling weakness however, as his grounded combos are actually somewhat above average; less so in terms of damage, but more on how consistently and frequently he can get them. Brocken won’t kill you in one explosive combo, but instead he chips away at your lifebar with short hit-confirms off of his fast buttons.

For the most part, Brocken does not have anything fancy going on; his gameplan is simple but effective, and his tools are generally intuitive to use. This overall makes him a good, beginner-friendly character. As a result, many agree that he is the perfect character to learn MGP2 fundamentals and nuances with. Brocken Jr. is a good choice if you’re new to MGP2, and he’s also a great choice if you enjoy hitconfirms in neutral and pressure built on fast buttons.
