Shaman King: Spirit of Shamans (シャーマンキング:シャーマンの精神, Shāman Kingu: Shāman no Seishin) is a 2D fighting game developed by Dimps. It's based on the first half of the 2001 Shaman King anime, featuring 16 playable characters and a 1P Story mode, where you follow Yoh Asakura through the general story, growing stronger via training mini-games.
Much akin to Dimps' other licensed fighters on the PS1 at the time, Shaman King follows a very simple control scheme; consisting of two attack buttons, a special move button, and a freeform chaining system.
What sets Shaman King apart from the other licensed 2D fighting games Dimps has developed, however, are its unique pace and intricate resource-management mechanics; 'Health' can be manipulated by use of system mechanics for both offensive and defensive purposes, the unique take on the 'Super Gauge' grants many smaller bonuses instead of the classic and immediate "Desperation Move" if you can fill it up, universal "Special Move Reflectors" that can be baited and punished give a dynamic option for the entire roster against zoning, and the overall slower neutral game with a large emphasis on punishing openings makes Shaman King very much a unique game of its own.
