Directions are notated using numpad notation, which uses numbers to describe directions in accordance to their location on a numpad.
This list assumes the player is on the P1 side. if on the P2 side, mirror the inputs horizontally. 9 becomes 7, 6 becomes 4, etc.

Defense
Blocking is performed by holding back or down-back. Holding straight back blocks all "high" and "mid" attacks, and holding down-back blocks all "mid" and "low" attacks. Down-back is typically what most players default to, and you should default to it, too.
