Tyara is a big grappler lady who uses scary command grabs, big normals, unmatched health, and high damage combos to melt the opponents lifebar. She's everything you want in a classic grappler: big, slow, long range, and a scary 360 input command grab that does great damage. Normals like 5LK, 5MP, and 5HK let her poke around in neutral effectively. Her main hitconfirm special, 236P Shield Charge, moves forward quickly and confirms into a knockdown easily. When charged, the startup and forward movement have super armor, making it scary to contest them. Her other specials, 623K Flying Goddess and 214P Head Lopper, serve more niche but very useful purposes. Flying Goddess is a great anti-air, and the EX version has real invincibility, though it can whiff on standing opponents. Head Lopper makes for a solid meaty and offense tool, similar to Hugo's Clap specials from Street Fighter, and allow for high damage combos after they connect.

Her signature move however is her command grab, 360K Break Your Bones. This is a short range but massive damage grab, which Tyara can threaten alongside her other strong okizeme tools. This makes blocking against her incredibly scary, as she can punish patient opponents with one of the highest damage single moves in the game. EX Break Your Bones allows for a followup, and with resources, Tyara can turn this command grab into huge damage. She has tons of great ways to use meter, from using DTC after Flying Goddess or Break Your Bones to secure a safejump, to using her various EX moves to extend combos and deal more damage. Her supers are great as well, with 236236P War Dance giving her great damage from hitconfirms. Her level 2 super, 720K Meteor Goddess, is harder to utilize, but is the highest single damage move in the game, and is immediately active. This means that if they weren't already in a throw invuln state, as long as she was within range, this will always connect. A single ATC parry from Tyara with 4 bars can spell the end of the round. On defense, she has two reversals, 623KK and 236PP, alongside the single highest health in the game. This lets her make many more mistakes without losing the round, allowing her to play riskier than the lower health characters.

Like most grapplers, however, Tyara has tough struggles in other areas. Her offense is range dependent, and while she has great buttons, they're a bit on the slow side. Her movement in general is lackluster, and she relies on the opponent being scared of big pokes or 236[P] to approach. If she can't get into this range, she struggles to secure a round, making it so fighting the long ranged pokes and projectiles common in Punch Planet can be a tall order. While her normals are amazing, they do have some serious endlag as well, making it dangerous to whiff. Her offense relies on resources, namely DTC safejumps, as her mixup without a safejump is lackluster. She has solid but low reward and unsafe overheads in 5MK and 5HP, and her low confirms aren't great as she struggles to link into her best cancels.

Tyara is the classic extreme grappler, and if you enjoy the archetype, she comes with everything you like. She's a familiar playstyle no matter where you come from, and her ability to end rounds the moment she gets into point blank range is staggering.


Pros Cons
  • Defense: Tyara has the highest HP value in the game, letting her tank hits like nobody else can. She also has 2 reversals to escape with, and some armored moves, letting her get through offense well.
  • Grappler: Like many grapplers, Tyara comes with tools to call the opponent out in many places. Flying Goddess is great at catching jumps, Break Your Bones is a stellar command grab, and Head Lopper gives her plus frames on hit and on block for great meaty pressure. Her punishes are great as well, one good ATC Parry means a command grab for great damage.
  • Buttons: Moves like 5MP, 2MP, 5LK, and 5HK all control space very well, and higher damage buttons like 2[HP] lead to huge punishes on hit.
  • DTC Safejumps: Tyara can spend DTC to get safejumps from most of her enders, allowing her to loop her offense and snowball rounds.
  • Big and Slow: She's one of the biggest characters in the game, and her lack of mobility makes approaching or stopping a good approach difficult.
  • Laggy Buttons: Many of Tyara's buttons whiff for a long time, allowing characters to run in behind them or poke them. Make sure that you aren't whiffing too often in the same spots.
  • Limited Damage: Tyara can't confirm quick jabs into much damage, and her best starters have high startup time or require certain conditions. If she gets a punish it hurts a ton, but your average hit won't net much.
