Introduction

Valkyrie Fight is a doujin game made by amaginZ in 2001, it features two versions, Valkyrie Fight (VF) and Valkyrie Fight Tag (VFT), they share a lot of common aspects so I'll be talking about them both here. The most I was able to find was this site https://web.archive.org/web/20020616125238fw_/http://www.ma.nma.ne.jp/~ikumi/vff/vft/index.html which explains the systen, characters and even has some framedata and combos (?????), unless by a crazy chance the original author decides to message me about this game (or someone who owns an original copy [Or someone who feels like translating the site, I can understand it but I'm not doing that yet]), please do so and I'll be more than happy to record and document everything here.
Right, to start off I found this game by accident the other day and found it really cute and funny, so I'm going to make a small effort to document what I was able to get here in modern wiki format, if I do get good at reverse engineering (Looking at you Million KNights Vermillion) I shall make a caster or make this work in modern PCs etc etc. Some information here is copy pasted from a FAQ I found on gamefaqs, which help me a whole lot.
Anyway... Here's the CD cover for VF https://foxgirl.stellafox.xyz/u/qoM2NyLM
Here's the CD cover for VFT https://foxgirl.stellafox.xyz/u/g2vIScER
So I decided to follow the link on the cover for VFT and well, that's how this page got made, after all I'm a girl who really likes her RPGs and VP is one of my favorites, and I also like my FGs, what could go wrong?
If you wanna play this lovely piece of history, just get it here this doesn't include the save file for VF because reasons.

HUD and FAQ

Although the game is in Japanese, I've used the localised names here. Each character will be presented with their U.S. name followed by the Japanese equivalent in parentheses. Valkyrie Fight is a fan-written fighting game for the PC designed by Amaginz of Japan. It is based on the Enix/Tri-Ace RPG Valkyrie Profile for the Playstation. It features some very unique mechanics, such as Avoid, Guard Cancels, Guard Crush and many movement options, it also has one of the coolest round calls ever https://foxgirl.stellafox.xyz/u/Cs2GAxFF - Purify Weird Soul
Counter is display as a giant text on the screen, way before Strive ever thought about making this! lol
The game's resolution is 320x240 and forces full screen (as always you cannot change it through normal means). You don't need Japanese locale (unlike some other doujin games from that time) and weirdly enough this seems to work out of the box for windows 10 which is unexpected to say the least but still a very pleasant surprise. I haven't tested linux support but will do so soon, should work out of the box with Wine.

Main Screen

There are seven options on the main screen. Use the up and down arrow keys tomove the pointing hand and press Z to make your selection.
Arcade - This is the regular game. You fight several different enemies for 2 rounds each. Then you fight the powerful boss Hrist.
VS Battle - This is for two players to fight against each other if you dare to bring this to a local (I did it anyway).
Survival - You fight unending one-round battles. Your charge time carries over from fight to fight, and you regain some health between fights.
Time Attack - This is identical to Arcade, except there are no credits at the end and your progress is timed.
Practice - It's identical to VS Battle except that a killed person just revives and the computer tells you how much damage your moves do. There are no training tools at all
Config - This is a submenu where you can change the settings for the game, it's in japanese but it's easy enough to understand.
Exit - Quits the game.

Autoguard - Select which players Autoguard is active for. Autoguard will block for the character if the player does not press any buttons during an enemy attack.
Turbo Mode - You can increase the speed of the game. This feature must be unlocked. (It's available with the save game provided anyway)
Key config - This is a submenu where you can change the default controls. Press Z to access it.
Record - This shows various high scores for the different characters.
Exit - Returns to the main screen.

HUD

https://foxgirl.stellafox.xyz/VqWQ3zcV
This was actually too small for me to put anything over it, remember, 320x240 really isn't something you can work with nowadays!
The green bar is your health bar
The blue bar is your Purification Bar which is affected by the gems, I don't quite get this mechanic honestly so I'll not go too much into it but charge time has something to do with it I don't know what they do either, this needs some labbing and studying.
The red dotted bar allows the use of EX moves (Charge Time, the meter will say 'Charged')

System Mechanics

Everyone can dash but not everyone can doublejump, some characters can teleport and stuff
