QoH 99SE Lecture

System Mechanics

Blocking (guard)

Same as most FGs. There is a guard meter that causes guard crush when depleted.

Guard Cancel

Done by inputting a move during a block. Screen pauses for a bit.

Parry (blocking in JP)

Done by double tapping forward/down+forward, causes character to slide forward, parries accepted for a short time during this. Can chain into further parries.

Push Block

Standard push block system.
  • NOTE: Not all characters have access to all of Guard Cancels, Parry, or Push Block, though every character has at least one.

Critical hits

Adds a little bit of damage, screen flashes white when one occurs. Completely random chance.

Clashing

When two normals/specials meet on the same frame, neither does damage and both characters are free to cancel into other stuff. The longer the clashing goes on the more damage the hit that goes through does.

Chain system

Can chain into any other normal move that hasn't been done yet. This includes dash attacks.

Wall/ground bounces

Some moves cause the opponent to hurtle towards wall/ground, causes non-prorated 1k-ish damage. Can tech this by double tapping away from the surface (88 for ground, 66 for wall). No one techs these, I think because you can get a free left/right during their tech.

Forced Knockdowns

Some moves cause forced knockdowns. You will see a pause, followed by an expanding white circle to indicate this.

Throws/throw techs

4+C near opponent, 1f startup. 5C comes out if you can't throw. Damage is somewhat random. Same input to tech. Both characters backdash away from each other, but Tomoko can airdash out of this, making her + on throw techs. Different characters have different tech windows on their throws. Longest being Edefel (Kaede's stand) at 24f, shortest being Yosie at 13f.

Reversals

A very small window upon waking up or teching (1f) where any move, including throws and normals, counts as a reversal. Indicated by stars. Does not give extra invul.

Air Dash

No height limit, can add pretty freely into combos. High tier characters abuse this.

Characters Likely to Be Used

Kaede

Stand character. Will abuse punch special/super to get behind opponent during blockstring and force a guard crush. There's nothing you can do about it, enjoy your damage.

O.Chizuru

Full screen specials, good damage, slow without her special dashes. She gets points for being COOL and EDGY.

Serika

Witch character. Has IAD combos that can deal 8-9k but are like 1f windows. Very good normals otherwise, and a reversal super that autowins clash wars unless you have a specific setup for it.

Tomoko

Carries a paper fan. Insanely fast IADS that can crossup, and with dash attacks being able to be used in combos, can confirm off any hit. Big damage, great range, resets, good clashes, she has everything. Best of the non-banned characters.

S.Shiho

Ryu clone. Good damage, comboable throw, very good jumpins, and her sliding 2A shuts down a lot of characters.

S.Kotone

ESPer/denpa. The original falling objects VN->FG character. Good range, easy launchers, projectile reflects, good wakeups, teleports, reversal EX falling objects is a free get-out-of-jail card.

Rio

YOOOOOSHI. Level 3 is an unblockable and she has a charge move that gives her meter. She can also cancel any normal into charge, so you can poke into charge for easy + frames. Sometimes trips while walking, and this does damage. Can trip in round startup.

Ayaka

Stance character. Stance also dodges, so it often gets used as an alpha counter for good reversals. Fairly standard character otherwise.

Rina

Brown-haired idol. Good range, her CD-throw is a free neutral win, DP is really good, and can combo in some situations.

Corin

She has a gun. IADs are good, essential part of her combos. Gun super is a hard knockdown. She has several reversals, and the only character with level 5 super.

Banned Characters

Tiria

Extreme damage, forced knockdowns everywhere, insane range. Has a dash attack that pops her up in the air so she can also do resets. Beats characters without good antiairs for free.

Comic Serika

Witch character, but also let's give her a scythe. Has instant overheads, insane lockdown potential, and very good movement.

Rapid Ayaka

Small startup to her dash, but she covers the entire screen in about half a second. Can punish most everything from full screen, has projectiles, infinite airdashes (that cost a small bit of meter), can parry, and does great damage still???
