Story

Commander Video is the protagonist of the Bit.Trip series, a series of video games in which he is famous for runnin' real good.

Gameplay

Overview Commander Video is a character with extreme strengths and weaknesses. His high-speed and low KO explosiveness may take people some time to get used to, but he has high return for your skill investment.

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Incredible movement abilities; With fast movement speed, long dash dance, and useful wavedash, Commander Video can keep himself out of harms way and counterattack from a far. When he has his trail, his Side Special gives him even more maneuverability.
  • Great tech chasing; Commander Video can easily react to any tech option with a Side Special. Even without Side Special, CV's great movement and fast aerials give him many ways to take advantage of a knockdown.
  • Great Frame Data; Many of Commander Video's moves have a low amount of startup frames, meaning they can beat out a lot options at close range as well as break combos.
  • A few useful disjoints; He shoots laser beams from eyes! His downstrong turns him into a cube! Useful moves when you can't easily get in with your shorter ranged moves.
  • Struggles to KO; Even Commander Video's strongest moves only KO at high percents, and his moves that KO the soonest, like his strong attacks, can be risky.
  • Stubby limbs; Most of his moves lack range. He does have a few big disjoints, but they all have slower startup than his non-disjoint normals, and they all have considerable endlag with the exception of forward air.
  • Weak throws at higher percents; His throws at lower percents can either be comboed from or cause a knockdown, but once the opponent starts gaining percent, his throws lose their combo and knockdown potential.
  • Exploitable Recovery; His up special has middling range, shoots him in a predictable arc, and leaves him in a long landing animation. He can really have a tough time recovering, especially if he is lower than the ledge. This also limits how deep he can go for edgeguards, leaving him with less options to KO opponents.

Unique Mechanics

  • Rainbow Trail

Commander Video starts each match without a rainbow trail. When he scores a hit, he gains a rainbow trail that you can see behind him as he runs. When he gets hit, he loses the trail. Having this trail means that you can jump cancel his side special, making the move much safer to use when approaching, letting him change direction in the air, and letting him combo off a hit. It's quite the thing to have!
