Numpad Notation

Compare to...

This wiki uses a combination of the Numerical Direction System (also known as Numpad Notation) and directional arrow-based notation for each character's Move-list and elsewhere on the wiki.

All move-lists assume the player is facing right. Numpad Notation represents the 8 directions in which a directional pad or joystick can be pushed - For example, 4 in Numpad Notation represents pushing back to walk backwards, 5 represents pressing nothing (the control pad/joystick being in a neutral state), and 9 represents pushing up + right to jump forwards. Some other examples of Numpad Notation include;

  • 236 A
Represents Quarter-circle forwards + A to throw a projectile.
  • 63214 B
Represents Half-Circle backwards + B.

While not strictly required, communicating inputs in fighting games via Numpad Notation is both much faster and more concise, especially online, and it's highly recommended to learn the system.

Basic Controls

MMPRG is a 2 Button fighting game (even though the Sega Genesis is capable of using 6 buttons...);

  • Genesis b-A.png is your Weak Attack button, and
  • Genesis b-B.png is your Strong Attack button.

Genesis b-B.png Attacks are usually slower but higher damaging or bear more range, while Genesis b-A.png Attacks are shorter and faster, but these standards are not always consistent from character to character, and some characters have longer Genesis b-A.png attacks than Genesis b-B.png attacks.

Special Moves

Special moves are done as usual for 2D Fighters; a designated motion input followed by the button press. Most inputs in the game use standard motions, but some characters are hybrid of motions and charge inputs, like Minotaur, while others are only charge inputs, like Blue Ranger and Dragonzord.

Universal Actions

  • Forward Dash: 66 - Move forward quickly, can be cancelled immediately into any action or held to extend.
  • Backdash: 44 - Retreat with a small window of invincibility.
  • Reflector: 6+A+B - Reflect projectiles coming at you towards the direction they came.
For all mechanics listed, see the Systems page for more detailed info with framedata and examples.
