What kind of game is MMPRG?

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Genesis is a game that is, systematically and mechanically, extremely basic; Characters have simple and small move-sets, actual mechanics are few, and the game only uses two buttons. However, the game's depth is largely made up of those few system mechanics stretching over to multiple aspects of the game (most notably Dashes), oddities / quirks, and how characters interact with both of these in context and in the flow of a match.

It's a very simple game to pick up and play, but there is absolute tons to optimize, lab and learn; far more than anyone would initially think, and that is what makes MMPRG special... Also, James Rolfe briefly glanced over it in an AVGN episode, which adds some novelty value to playing it beyond the game just being fun.

How do I perform Super Secret Attacks?

Super Secret Attacks are, unlike most fighting games, not limited to any kind of resource whatsoever and can be used as frequently as you can input them, which...

For some unknown reason, all Super Secret Attacks have the input of half-circle forward 6 times + A, or 412364123641236412364123641236+A to visualize that. They are not listed in the official manual in any way.

The common theory is that this input was a left-over from development and that there was going to be a different input which never made it into the final cut, but this acts as one of the game's many 'miracles of accidental balance' because of the incredible awkwardness of the input and having to tap forward multiple times (read: not being able to defend) being the only things keeping Super Secret Attacks in check - MMPRG is truly something in this regard.

Are all the Rangers exactly the same?

Technically, yes, but in practice, no.

Every Ranger in the game shares a "base move-set", which consists of simple but effective Shotokan-like normals, a large laser blast Super Secret Attack, and a basic projectile. This move-set, by itself, is mediocre but functional.

Every Ranger has at least 2 specials which are unique to them, like Black Ranger's Hurricane Tackle and Axe Spin, or Red Ranger's Power Sword and Heel Kick.

These unique specials synergize with the base Ranger move-set to cover the bases that it can't by itself, which gives every Ranger a unique playstyle even if they are all fundamentally very similar; Black Ranger's versatile offensive potential because of his forward moving plus-on-block Hurricane Tackle is different from Blue Ranger's invulnerable defensive tools.

Why do the Rangers turn white when hitboxes are toggled on?

As described above, all of the Rangers share the same normals, so to make things simpler for editors and viewers alike a "base palette" was made for the hitboxes on moves that are shared between Rangers.

Why can't I play the character I want versus some characters?

The base game has a unique limitation that tries to keep characters' sizes canonically accurate, by restricting what match-ups can be played and what stages can be picked based on the match-up; Rangers cannot fight against Megazord because they are piloting it in the normal context where you play as the Megazord, for example.

The "Versus Hack" from BillyTime! Games largely removes this restriction and allows all match-ups to be played, and is both the more commonly preferred and far superior way to play the game.

How do I play online? And is there a community channel?

Online play is done through Fightcade 2, and yes! Both the vanilla game and the ROM-hack are playable on FC2 without any issues and with rollback netcode.

You can find the discord server by clicking this link, or in the Infobox on the wiki's landing page. Then check the #quick-resources channel to get all you need to play online, and find some matches!

What does the tier list look like?

While there isn't a generally agreed upon tier list as of now, here are 2 lists from some players to give a rough idea of some placings, particularly of high tiers;
