Questions about Setting-up and Downloading the Game

The game crashes after the intro. Why?

You're going to need to download the patched version of the game, the original version of AzuFight doesn't work on modern devices.

I downloaded the patched version and my game still isn't working...

If your computer uses a modern AMD GPU, you're probably screwed. A few years ago they updated their drivers and that somehow broke compatibility with the fdraw.dll. Theoretically you could roll your drivers back to an older version but I couldn't tell you just how far back you'd have to go and I wouldn't recommend this unless you know what you're doing.
The game also runs pretty solid for most people on Linux through Steam's Proton compatibility. You might need to download the original, unpatched version available on the main page. Make sure you know what you're doing or install on a virtual machine first, lest you wind up reformatting mommy's hard drive trying to install a brand-new operating system.

For now on Windows with AMD, all you can really do is play through someone else's Parsec, wait for someone to find a fix (lol good luck), or try to troubleshoot it yourself. I've had some mixed results running the original, NON-PATCHED game (DL listed on the home page) through DgVoodoo2 and similar DirectX wrappers. With DgVoodoo, the game itself would run fine but most menu/hud/background elements are stretched/enlarged. With other wrappers the game would SOMETIMES launch and run fine, then have a random chance to crash while loading a new menu.

Feel free to ask for help in the #troubleshooting channel of the Discord Server, especially if you have any ideas for getting the game to run properly.

How do I set up my controls?

Before anything else, go into the game's files and delete CONFIG.dat and keyconfig.dat and then open Config.exe, when you initially download the game the default controls are set to some garbage text.

If you're using a keyboard you'll have to manually go into the keyconfig.dat and edit it yourself, If you're using a gamepad with an analogue stick it's as simple as going to the config.exe and setting them up there, but if your stick only has a D-Pad you're gonna need Antimicro - Joy2key works too but Antimicro is better for multiple controllers. Then you can just set your controller up there.

Questions About the Game

Does this game have netplay?

The game itself doesn't have any sort of netplay, unfortunately, but you can use Parsec to play against other people online.

Why are there 2 rows of the same characters?

The characters in the upper row are EX versions of the students, they feature different movesets. Typically the EX characters function completely differently from their normal counterparts.

Who should I play?

This game has a good amount of characters to choose from, all of which fall into different archetypes. Below are a list of examples of character archetypes you might be interested in. Really you should just pick who you want to play, though, whether it's your favorite character from the anime or you just find them cool.

Kamineko has been deemed a little too rancid for competitive play due to him having one of the easiest and most accessible infinites while being being too short to even be hit by most standing moves in the game. He deserves this for being so mean in the series anyway.
