Overview
Vanilla
Elin has the lowest special in the game, and has the second highest physical stats behind Flick Instict Toni. Her low special may seem like it makes her a straight downgrade from Toni, but lower power Items means lower power self inflicted items as well.
Flick Instinct
In Flick Instinct Elin gets more consistent access to Coins which allow her to spam Items at a much faster rate than anyone else.
Strategy
Elin starts most matchups in the lead due to her high physical stats, and she wants to make matches and chains as fast as possible to keep that lead. Because her special is so low, Coins are a low priority for elin and taking self-hitting items is not that bad. Also important to know is that feathers are not effected by the special stat at all, meaning they become stronger in comparison to the rest of items.
Short and long chains are both strong with Elin. Small 1 and 2 chains are the most efficient for damage which is how you win the game, but long chains can give Elin more control over the color of the board and stop an opponent from cashing out coins right after a clear, forcing them to commit to bigger and slower combo setups.
In Flick Instinct Elin changes more than maybe any other character. By making constant 4 chains Elin can repeatedly spam Items at the opponent. And while they are still lower impact, the constant barrage of them can be very disruptive for Elin's opponent. However, going further than 4 can quickly overwhelm Elin's board and force her into positions where she must take a bad card just to get rid of the coins on board.
Short chains don't really make sense for FI Elin, outside of getting the first 4/5 coins. If Elin ever clears coins without a chain it's a lost opportunity. This can be especially problematic if Elin ever gets into a situation where she can't switch the color onto something good mid-combo. Normally you can resolve this by making a few 1 chains to get more emblems, but since the combo into the coin will give you coins back you'll be flooded again and potentially forced into a situation where you have to take a bad item. Going for a 4 chain can lead to that "no combo setup" problem since it will cycle most of your board into new emblems. Going for a 3 chain and then making 1 more clear is both a little bit more efficient and gives you a little bit more control over what emblems you'll have on board for your coin clear.
A consequence of going for long chains constantly is that you'll be more impacted by items like tickle and blind, potentially turning your opponent's mediocre hands into higher impact ones.
