General

Music Addition Added two new music tracks, both from Cosmic Hat Games' Rolling Rampage: Block Desert and Area 51³

- Block Desert now has a chance to play automatically on Desert Train
- Area 51³ now has a chance to play automatically on Cube City in Peril

Volume Settings Fix Improved the calculations for volume settings to make the percentages more accurate

- WARNING: IF YOU HAVE ADJUSTED THE IN-GAME VOLUME SETTINGS AT ALL, THE GAME MAY BE MUCH LOUDER THAN IN THE PREVIOUS VERSION

Controls Addition Added an option in the Control settings to swap the WASD and Arrow Keys inputs for Player 1 and Player 2

- With this, anyone who wants to use arrow keys as Player 1 is now able to do so. It's a hacky solution, but with the limitations of the input system, it's the only one really available.

Movement Adjustment Improved the internal calculations for movement. The feel of ground movement is unchanged, however air movement now has some added smoothing when changing direction
Super Meter Adjustment Heavily simplified the calculations for Super Meter gain when attacking or being attacked. There have also been some notable changes to meter gain:

- The amount of meter gained from landing an attack has been increased very slightly
- The amount of meter gained from landing an attack is now reduced when the attack is blocked
- The amount of meter gained from blocking or being hit by an opponent's attack has been reduced

Burst Gauge Adjustment - The amount of Burst gained from taking damage now scales in a combo depending on the number of attacks used, rather than the number of hits

- Attacks that hit multiple times will no longer give the opponent additional Burst for every hit - To compensate for the above changes, the base amount of Burst gained from being hit has been slightly increased

Break Burst Fix - Break Burst now lifts your character up slightly higher, to prevent the character sometimes landing on the ground before the free-fall recovery on whiff can occur

- Fixed an issue where Bursts didn't halt your vertical velocity on startup

Light Attacks Adjustment All Light attacks have had their blockstun slightly reduced.
Blocking/Blockstrings Adjustments and Fixes - Increased the amount of pushback received when hitting a blocking opponent in the corner with normals
- Pushback in the corner will now also begin to drastically increase after the opponent blocks 6 attacks in succession

- Normals that have any forward movement will now have their velocity gradually reduced as a blockstring goes on, albeit very subtly
- Fixed an issues where you could sometimes be hit during blockstun if you let go of the block input
- Fixed an issue where crossup protection could be broken if at least 2 moves were landed in the same blockstring before the crossup occurred
- Fixed an issue where using a reverse beat in a blockstring would have different effects depending on whether the opponent was using Back-to-Block or Block Button

Grabs/Throws Minor Adjustment and Fixes - Universal throws (6H) can no longer activate if the opponent is in a knockdown state.

- Fixed an issue where breaking certain characters' universal throws could sometimes result in the throw break animation not playing properly
- Fixed an issue where it was possible to grab an opponent during their pre-jump animation (most noticeable against Guy)
- Fixed an issue where having a lot of forward velocity and being hit by a grab could sometimes cause you to keep sliding past the player who grabbed you
- Implemented a potential fix for an issue where being hit with an attack just as you grabbed the opponent caused both players to be put into hitstun but return to idle almost immediately

Clashing/Disjointed Attacks Fixes - Disjointed attacks now clash with each other instead of phasing through each other

- Fixed an issue where disjointed attacks would clash with non-disjointed attacks
- Fixed an issue where two moves clashing would always result in both players hitting each other

Damage-Over-Time Effects Adjustment - Reduced the damage of damage-over-time effects, such as poison (250/second → 200/second)
Visual Effects Adjustment Updated the on-hit effects for fire0based attacks
Reversals Fixes - Fixed an oversight where it was possible to break an opponent's guard with Reversals, allowing them to start combos due to the increase in hitstun

- Fixed an issue where a Reversal could K.O. the opponent if it dealt exactly enough damage to bring them to 0 HP
- Fixed an issue where getup Reversals would not put the user into free-fall on whiff if the last thing the user landed was a standing Reversal

Loop Escape Fix Fixed an issue where triggering a loop escape would not reset Wall Bounce and Floor Bounce uses properly
Projectiles Bug Fix Fixed an issue where projectiles with a vacuum effect on hit would still cause this effect if they hit an armoured opponent
Unblockable Attacks Bug Fix Fixed an issue where hitting an airborne opponent with an unblockable move that also causes a crumple on hit would result in the opponent immediately exiting hitstun
Dashing Bug Fix Fixed an issue where dashing into a normal would allow you to cancel that attack into a dash-only command normal

- Cancellling dashing commmand normals into other dashing command normals was intentionally left in, however

Menus

Credits Adjustment The credits sequence is now skippable
Victory Screen Addition and Fix - You can now deselect the option you choose on the victory screen using the back button (B on an Xbox controller by default), as long as the other player hasn't chosen yet

- Fixed an issue where the Confirm button could continue to be pressed after selecting an option on the victory screen, causing the sound effect to play repeatedly

Character Select Screen Bug Fix Fixed an issue where changing between back-to-block and button block using the character select screen's controls menu would not correctly update the setting in-game

Stages

New Stage Variant Addition Added a new Grey Screen variant for the Green Screen Stage

- An additional option for the green screen stage that was requested by the community!

Master Locks Dojo Fix and Adjustment - Fixed certain models in the stage being on the wrong rendering layer, causing them to appear in cinematics that normally hide stage elementsa

- Updated the particle effects on the stage's variant

Dasteel Workshop Fix Fixed certain models in the Dasteel Laboratory variant being on the wrong rendering layer
Diamondeye Casino Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the camera could scroll too far to the right on Diamondeye Casino after a KO, causing lots of clipping
The Flying Swordsman Fix Fixed an issue where the left side of the stage had no wall after a KO occurred
Necromancer's Keep Fix Fixed an issue where it was possible to trigger the Star KO animation on the stage
Magma Core Adjustment Updated the hit effects for the stage hazards
Meteor Shower Town Adjustment and Bug Fix - Updated the effects for the meteors in the background, as well as the stage hazards

- Fixed an issue where the meteors would instantly vanish if blocked instead of exploding

Solo Modes

Mission Mode Addition and Bug Fix - Added 3 new Missions:
- Hair Styling
- Ultra Crash Siblings
- Fabulous Flex Off

- Fixed an issue where the meteors would instantly vanish if blocked instead of exploding

Training Mode Fixes - Fixed an oversight where resetting in Training Mode wouldn't remove certain lingering hit effects, such as those from fire and electricity attacks

- Fixed an issue where the Hard Knockdown cooldown timer would persist between resets
- Fixed an issue where the Reverse Beat cooldown timer (when used against a blocking opponent) would persist between resets

Combo Trials Addition, Adjustments, and Fixes - Added a new trial for Clyde, which is now Trial 06

- Updated Rattlebone's Trial 07 to work better with the changes made to his Jumping Heavy, and to make it a bit more interesting
- Removed an unnecessary dash requirement in Red's Trial 10
- Fixed an issue where Baron's Trial 05 displayed incorrect notation for the Orbital Grapple move
- Updated Shiverskull's Trial 09 to make the cancel into More Swords at the end slightly less tight
- Updated Ember's Trail 08 to work better with the changes made to her Throw
- Fixed an issue where certain moves, when used as the final in a trial, would count towards the trial's completely despite appearing to whiff

Clyde Brightstar
Major Overhaul
Clyde was the first character ever developed for the game, and that age was starting to show in both his visuals and the overall feel of his moveset. So, we decided to give him a big overhaul! Many of his animations and visual effects have been redone from scratch, certain moves have been touched up in their functionality, and he's even got a brand-new move to play with!

Visual Effects Update All of Clyde's fire-based attacks have had their visual effects updated. Any changes to animation will be noted separately
Crouching Light Buff Reduced startup time (11F-9F)
Crouching Heavy New Move and Fix Updated the move's animation, though it is functionally identical outside of the following fix:

- Fixed an oversight where the move's jump cancel window didn't start until a few frames after the hitbox bceame active

Jumping Light Adjustment Slightly increased vertical knockback to improve consistency in combos
Jumping Medium Adjustment Slightly reduced vertical knockback to improve consistency in combos
Jumping Heavy Slight Nerf The slight bounce from the move now occurs slightly sooner into the animation, to prevent being able to cancel the move before the bounce
Throw (6H) Update Updated the move's animation, though it is functionally identical
Rushing Straight (6M while dashing) Buff The move can now be cancelled after hitting a blocking opponent
Blazing Combo (4S, formerly known as Blazing Dash) Overhaul The move has been completely overhauled, with Clyde now moving forward in three steps instead of a long, continuous movement. While it still retains a similar purpose as before, landing all three hits is now much more consistent, and it feels overall better to use
Blazing Force (4[S]) New Move - An alternate version of Blazing Combo, performed by holding the Special button

- A single, powerful punch that takes longer to startup, but lets you act sooner than opponent if they block it! Use it to rush in and immediately start putting on the pressure!
- Unlike Blazing Combo, this move cannot be used in the air

Inferno Upper (2S) Buffs and Fix - Altered the hitboxes so they no longer gradually change in size

- Removed the property that made the first two hits of the attack unable to hit airborne opponents
- Removed the property that made the last two hits of the attack unable to hit grounded opponents
- Fixed an issue where the hitbox visualizer in Training Mode made the move's hitboxes look larger than they actually were

- All these changes have also been applied to Ember's copied version of the move
Meteor Slam (j.S) Fix Fixed a VERY silly oversight where the move would hit low if it landed during the final few frames the hitbox was active
Eruption Fist (5SP) Adjustment and Nerfs - Updated the move's animations

- Reduced total damage (7000-6000)
- The move now forces the opponent out of hitstun after a certain amount of time, preventing it from comboing into itself
- If the move is used too close to the corner, Clyde will now be moved slightly out of the corner (though not far enough to ever cause the move to whiff because of it)

Brightstar Barrage (2SP) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the opponent could sometimes end up behind Clyde after the initial hit of the Super, causing the rest of the hits to whiff
Miscellaneous Adjustment and Bug Fixes - Updated Clyde's intro animation

- Fixed an issue where Clyde's animation for turning around after a run could override the Burst animation if they happened at the same time
- Fixed an issue where using a jumping heavy, Blazing Combo, or Meteor Slam during a long jump could cause the move's inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump

Annie Dasteel
Moderate Tweaks
Annie didn't have much wrong with her, and in fact is still one of the characters we're proudest of to this day! She's nonetheless received a few changes to help her better integrate her Portable Supercharged Tesla into her zoning, as well as a few other miscellaneous tweaks.

Crouching Heavy Buff Increased the hitbox size to make the move connect more reliably in the corner
Throw (6H) Bug Fixes - Fixed an issue where the throw break window for Annie's throw was much shorter than other characters

- Fixed an issue where breaking Annie's throw would cause the opponent to teleport in front of Annie, sometimes leaving them in a soft knockdown state

Portable Supercharged Tesla (2S) Buffs - The disc's velocity has been increased, making it reach its destination in roughly half the time compared to before

- Reduced the startup of the trap activation (13F-6F)
- Reduced recovery time of the trap activation by roughly 9 frames

Volatile Condensed Energy (j.4S) Nerf The orb will now disappear if Annie is hit by an attack

Sir Rattlebone
Moderate Tweaks
While Rattlebone is very much supposed to be effective at almost everything, some of his moves were a bit overtuned, making him stronger than intended in some areas. His changes are few, but they should help reign him in significantly.

Standing Heavy Nerf Changed from an overhead to a mid
- However, the move now becomes an overhead again during Chivalrous Spirit
Shield Bash (4S) Buff The move can now be cancelled into its follow-ups slightly earlier
Kingbone Slicer (7/8/9 during Shield Bash) Nerf The move now advances damage scaling separately from the intial Shield Bash hit
Tibia Chopper (S during Shield Bash) Nerf and Buff - The move now advances damage scaling separately from the intial Shield Bash hit

- Increased the move's forward velocity to help it combo more consistently from the initial Shield Bash hit

Shoto Kanji
Moderate Tweaks
Shoto's offense is pretty oppressive by design, but this could make him quite frustrating to fight at times. We've toned down some of his more obnoxious elements, such as his projectile game and his block pressure, while keeping his big damage and combo game largely untouched.

Standing Heavy Nerf - Increased startup time (10F-11F)

- Increased recovery time (12F-16F)

Electric Blast ([S]) Nerf - Increased recovery of the aerial version (total animation length: 35F-40F)

- Shoto can no longer have multiple Electric Blast projectiles on-screen at a time

- However, Shoto can now have both an Electric Blast and an Electric Ball on-screen simultaneously
Storm Kicks (4S) Nerf If the move whiffs or is blocked, Shoto will now play a lengthy landing recovery animation upon hitting the ground. This animation will NOT occur on hit
- This change has also been applied to Ember's copied version of the move
Thunder Eclipse (5SP) Nerf When the projectile is blocked, it now disappears afteer only 6 hits, instead of 12
Miscellaneous Adjustment and Bug Fix - Improved visual effects for the fire-based attacks on the Shoto Goto costume

- Fixed an issue where using Storm Kicks during a long jump could cause the move's inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump

Derrick Stone
Minor Tweaks
Derrick was largely fine, so we didn't touch him much. He has received some small nerfs, but they're mainly in the interest of correcting some oversights, and don't greatly affect his gameplay. He does get a cool new costume, though!

New Costume !!! Added a new costume: Pilot Derrick
- (To unlock: Beat the new Mission "Ultra Crash Siblings")
Standing Heavy Nerf Slightly reduced travel distance
Dust Ball (5[S]) Nerf The dust ball will now disappear if Derrick is hit by an attack
Junk Toss (2S) Adjustment If the turtle shell item is blocked, it will now bounce off the opponent like normal instead of passing through them
Miscellaneous Fixes - Fixed an oversight where Derrick's Break Burst invincibility lasted longer than other characters

- Fixed an issue where using The Derrick "Special" during a long jump could cause the move's inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump

Cole "Red" Maxwell
Moderate Tweaks
Red's gotten a few nice buffs, including two new ways to secure a Hard Knockdown, which helps really drive in his bullying playstyle!

Standing Heavy Buff Slightly reduced horizontal knockback
Bruiser Beatdown (5S) Buff The Rage-enhanced followup now grants a Hard Knockdown
Break Barrage (5SP) Buff Now grants a Hard Knockdown
Beam Overdrive (2SP) Adjustments - Now causes a floor bounce even if the standard floor bounce has alread been used, ensuring that it's always possible to combo off it

- If the move is used too close to the corner, Red will now be moved slightly out of the corner

Baron Brightstar
Minor Tweaks
While he wasn't desperately in need of changes, Baron's regular Brightstar Bomber has gotten the same treatment as its Grand counterpart for combos, since it was previously possible to use it many times in a combo with little drawback if timed correctly.

Brightstar Bomber (5S) Nerf Note, these changes only apply to the ground version of the move. The air version is untouched

- The move changes to a "weak" version if used multiple times in the same combo. The weak version has reduced damage and travel distance, and will force the opponent's hitstun to end quicker than usual
- The move no longer forces the opponent's hitstun to end quicker than usual, allowing for easier follow-ups

- All these changes have also been applied to Ember's copied version of the move
Miscellaenous Adjustment and Fixes - Universal throws can now be activated against Baron from slightly further away to compensate for his wider collision box

- Fixed an oversight where Baron's Break Burst animation was shorter than other characters
- Fixed an oversight where Baron's Blast Burst invincibility lasted for less time than other characters

Sylvan Blackjack
Moderate Overhaul
Sylvan's got a wealth of new options to play with, thanks to a complete overhaul of his Slot Machine special! The changes make working your way up to Full House Mode much more engaging and interesting, as there are even more possible routes to achieve your goals, and lots of new considerations to make in regards to the order you collect Aces!

Standing Heavy Buff - Updated the animation

- Drastically reduced recovery time (58F-26F)

- Good god, what were we THINKING??
Throw (6H) Nerf Increased recovery time after a successful throw (26F-31F)
Draw Card (4X) Buff - Reduced the length of the animation that plays when drawing an Ace (46F-26F)
- This animation has also been updated to more clearly show which ace was drawn

- Slightly reduced the length of the animation that plays when drawing a non-Ace card (33F-31F)

Ace Energy (4X with Ace) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the Heart Energy projectile would continue to move during cinematics
Security!! (5S) Addition Added an additional HUD icon that appears next to Sylvan's card slots that shows when Withers is on cooldown
Slot Machine (2S) Buffs - Reduced Recovery time (32F-19F)

- Sylvan's Ace Energy projectiles can now trigger the slot machine, and cause a unique interaction. Each different suit will guarantee one of two specific outcomes

- Spade guarantees either Damage Up or Poison
- Heart Guarantees either Healing Items or Poison
- Club guarantees either Meter Gain Up or Explosion
- Diamond guarantees either Cheat or Explosion
Cashing Out (2[S]) New Move - An alternate version of Slot Machine, performed by holding the Special button

- Sylvan summons a slot machine that begins rolling automatically, and always results in an Explosion. The explosion is smaller than weaker than the normal one, but cannot hurt Sylvan, making it more of a proper attacking move! Use it to enhance your zoning and extend combos in new ways!

- Like your regular Slot Machine, you can hold forward or backward to change the spawning position
- If Sylcan is hit while the Cashing Out slot machine is rolling, it will stop rolling and become a regular Slot Machine that can be hit by either player

- This move cannot be used in Full House Mode

Full House Mode Fix Fixed an issue where Sylvan's Full House timer would drain during his own Super cinematics
Miscellaneous Adjustment Updated some of Sylvan's move names
- Super Slot Machine is now called "Break the Bank"

Captain Shiverskull
Moderate Tweaks
A few miscellaneous changes, but the big one is that Shiverskull's crew can now be hit by the opponent's attacks, making his crewmate pressure a bit less safe overall. On the bright side, though, he's looking sharp with his new costume!

New Costume !!! Added a new costume: Mafia Shiverskull
Crouching Heavy Buff The attack's hitbox is now disjointed, meaning it no longer counts as a part of Shiverskull's hurtbox
Davey Bones' Locker (4H) Buff The move can now be cancelled after hitting a blocking opponent
Give No Quarter! (2S) Nerf and Fixes - The summoned crew members can now be hit by an opponent's attacks, which will interrupt their own attacks and cause them to jump away
- They are still immune to projectiles and throws, however

- If the move is used too close to the corner, the crew members will now spawn slightly further back than usual, to prevent them spawning beyond the walls of the stage
- Fixed an issue where the crew members' hitboxes would permanently vanish if they hit an opponent using an armoured move

Miscellaneous Addition and Fixes - Added new intro and victory dialogue between Lumina and Shiverskull

- Fixed an issue where using Ship Sinker during a long jump could cause the move's inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump
- Fixed an oversight where the Classic costume prevented you from using Shiverskull's character-specific Training Mode setting

Lumina Blackjack
Bug Fixes
Just some good 'ol bug fixes for her! While Lumina does seem to be a very strong character, there's nothing in particular that we feel confident in changing about her right now. A puppet character in a game as free-form as Duels of Fortune is bound to be powerful, after all!

Chip Fix Fixed an oversight which caused Chip to be able to delete Super projectiles
Timber (8S) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the move could trigger a Loop Escape on the grab hit instead of the throw hit, leading to a guaranteed unblockable setup
Miscellaneous Addition and Fixes - Added new intro and victory dialogue between Lumina and Shiverskull

- Fixed an oversight where Lumina's Break Burst invincibility lasted longer than other characters
- Fixed an oversight where Lumina's Blast Burst hitbox was active for less time than other characters

Black Heart
Moderate Tweaks
Black Heart was definitely a very overtuned character, having no serious weaknesses while being capable of some of the most terrifying mix-ups and knockdown pressure in the game. With these changes, we've attempted to better accentuate his intended weaknesses while keeping his strengths intact.

Visual Effects Update All of Black Heart's fire-based attacks have had their visual effects updated
Dashes/Long Jumps Nerf - Increased Black Heart's hurtbox size while dashing on the ground. The height is now on par with that of Clyde's forward dash

- Slightly increased Black Heart's hurtbox size during long jumps

Head Over Heels (j.2H) Nerf The slight bounce from the move now occurs slightly sooner, to prevent being able to land on the ground before the bounce
Gelatinous Shadow (5S) Nerf and Fix - The blob projectile will now disappear if Black Heart is hit while it is active

- Fixed a visual issue where Black Heart's Gelatinous Shadow projectile would not spawn its disappearing particle effect when blocked

Violent Kicks (2S)" Nerf The move now changes to a "weak" version if used multiple times in the same combo. The weak version has reduced damage, reduced vertical knockback, and forces the opponent's hitstun to end quicker than usual
Heart Breaker (2SP) Nerf The projectiles from the heart will now only spawn higher up in the air, to prevent them from spawning on top of the opponent
Miscellaneous Bug Fix Fixed an issdue where using Trick Punch during a long jump could cause the move's inherent velocity to be overridden by the long jump

Justin O. Guy
Bug Fixes
I mean... How do you improve something that's already so perfect?

Miscellaneous Fixes - The landing lag animation for each of Guy's states is now 1 frame shorter
- This was mainly to fix an internal math issue where the Caffeinated state's landing lag animation was technically "7.5 frames" in code, despite that not being possible

- Fixed an oversight where Guy's Blast Burst hitbox was active for longer than other characters

Callowman
Minor Tweaks
Just one change for Callowman, but it's something that was probably long overdue. Sorry, floating green buddy.

Callow Crash (5S) Nerf The aerial move now whiffs on crouching opponents, to prevent it from being essentially unblockable if performed close to the ground or against taller characters

Doodle
Minor Tweaks
Doodle is a weird character to balance, but for this update, we've just made a few small changes, including a buff to Ultimate Doodle to bring it in line with other major install Supers. Doodle also gets the third of the three costumes in this update!

New Costume !!! Added a new costume: Vintage Doodle
- (To unlock: Beat the Mission "Contrast")
- Note: If you have already beaten this Mission, you will have to beat it again to trigger the unlock. We will work to find a way around this for any future unlocks that are added to existing Missions
Visual Effects Update All of Doodle's fire-based attacks have had their visual effects updated
Throw (6H) Fixes - Slightly increased the range from which Doodle can activate a universal throw

- Fixed an oversight where Doodle's throw could grab airborne opponents

Hot Sauce (j.S) Nerf and Update - Changed the jar hit from an overhead to a mid

- Updated the look of the fire puddle

Ultimate Doodle (2SP) Buff Now resets damage scaling by 50% when used (capping at 110% damage)
- This puts it in line with other major install Supers like Rattlebone's Chivalrous Spirit and Baron's Red Supergiant
Miscellaneous Bug Fix Fixed an issue where dashing into Doodle during the later stages of his idle animation would cause him to slide across the screen

ERROR CS1501
Minor Tweaks
Mostly bug fixes, as is to be expected from the living glitch itself, but we've also slightly tweaked the feel of ERROR's flight.

Delete Gravity (j.S) Adjustment ERROR's flight has been reworked to make the movement feel much less slippery. ERROR will now come to a stop much quicker after letting go of a direction.
void Consume(); (2SP) Bug Fixes - Fixed an issue where hitting the opponent just as they entered a void Consume();-enhanced portal would cause them to be able to move around during the super cinematic

- Fixed an issue where the opponent call fall through a void Consume();-enhanced portal, just as the portal expired, causing them to never come back
- Fixed an issue where holding Burst during the move's startup would prevent you from Blast Bursting during the move entirely
- Fixed a visual issue where the particle effect for an enhanced portal could appear on a pre-placed portal that had already vanished

Miscellaneous Bug Fix Fixed an issue where ERROR's "trip" animation caused them to skip part of their knockdown animation when landing

Mystery Johnson
Moderate Tweaks
Johnson gets a nice movement speed buff to help him maneuver and close the gap more easily! A certain sharkman has also gotten a bit faster (though not exactly willingly).

Movement Buff Slightly increased Johnson's movement speed, both on the ground and in the air
Bloody Moonfish!! (2SP) Buff The Shaz projectile now travels faster
Trigger System Bug Fixes - Fixed an issue where performing an Impact Run from certain moves would cause Johnson to walk forward instead, but at running speed

- Fixed an issue where Bullets could still be spent after a round ended

Miscellaneous Fix Fixed an oversight where Johnson's landing lag animation was longer than other characters

Ember
Moderate Tweaks

Lumina Blackjack

New Character !!! Sylvan's niece and personal secretary, Lumina is Duels of Fortune's very own puppet fighter! That means you'll actually be controlling two characters at once: Lumina, and her gigantic living puppet, Chip (who may or may not also contain the soul of her deceased brother). Lumina and Chip will both move at the same time when you hold a direction, though Chip is a bit slower, and is unable to crouch or jump. And while Lumina makes use of the Light, Medium, and Heavy buttons as normal, the Special button is used exclusively by Chip. With correct positioning and tight execution, you can have Lumina and Chip attacking simultaneously for an extremely threatening dual offense! She's likely the most difficult character on the roster so far, requiring a high level of knowledge and skill to make the most of, but offers a strong, rewarding, and thoughtful playstyle for those willing to put in the effort.

Loop Prevention System Addition Implemented a new loop prevention system, meaning that repeating the same move, or sequence of moves, over and over will now cause the opponent to automatically tech out after the third repetition. For more technical information on how this system works, read here
Reversal Change Performing a Reversal now causes you to gain Super Meter 75% slower for the next 4 seconds

(Some players found that Reversals did not have much effective cost, since it was very easy to regain the spent meter immediately afterward. This change aims to make Reversals more of a proper commitment in that regard.)

Battle Pop-Ups Change Removed the “Guard Break” text pop-up that appears when you successfully hit a blocking opponent, as it was causing unintended confusion for some new players. The “Unblockable” pop-up still appears for landing an unblockable move, however
Blocking Change Added a system to protect against high-low unblockables. If you block an overhead or low, you’ll now automatically block any attacks of the opposite property for about 4 frames

(This was mostly added because of Lumina, but may apply to other future characters as well)

Blocking Fixes - Altered the way velocity is applied to blocking players so that you will no longer slide across the entire screen when blocking certain moves

- Fixed an issue where dashing into a blocking opponent would cause them to slide much further than usual

New Character !!! Derrick is a very wacky and unique character who has the ability to pull random items and throw them at the opponent! Each item has unique properties, effects, and uses, so it's important to take note of which ones you get and use them accordingly! Derrick is great at controlling space with his items and his Dust Ball projectile, pressuring an opponent's guard, and performing long air combos! It's not always easy for him to get going, and he lacks meterless defensive options, but his strengths can nonetheless making him a formidable fighter!

General

Hitstun Scaling Change Altered hitstun scaling so that it now increases per move instead of per hit. This should make multi-hit attacks much more effective to use in combos, as they will no incur much more hitstun scaling compared to single-hit attacks

(Note that not all multi-hit attacks benefit greatly from this, as previously there was just a multiplier in place to reduce the amount of scaling per hit that multi-hit attacks incurred. However, for characters with several 3-hit or more attacks, such as Clyde, Callowman, and ERROR, this change opens up tons of new combo possibilities!)

Throwable Items Change Altered the way dropping a held item when you get hit works; if you’re holding an item, the chance to drop the item when taking damage is now higher, but you also now won’t drop the item at all unless your opponent’s combo counter has reached 5 or higher
Projectiles Change Unblockable projectiles (such as Derrick’s new Buff Boy Plush item, and some Boss attacks) can now instantly break armour, to mirror how other Unblockable attacks work
Getup Reversal Nerf All Getup Reversals that put the character into the air will now cause them to enter a vulnerable falling state if the Reversal whiffs. This change affects the following characters: Clyde, Rattlebone, Shoto, Black Heart, Callowman, Doodle, and ERROR
Burst Bug Fix Fixed an issue where a Burst and Reversal could be used at the same time

(NOTE: This fix may have also fixed an issue where blockstun animations can sometimes override the Burst animation, but that issue is extremely difficult to recreate intentionally, so we’re not 100% sure)

Miscellaneous Bug Fix Fixed an issue where aerial moves that retain any amount of momentum that is less than all of it (such as Shiverskull’s jumping Heavy) would retain all of the character's momentum when moving backwards

Arcade Mode Addition The final fight before the boss of an Arcade run is now a Rival Fight!

- Each character has a certain selection of other characters who can be their Rival, and you will now always fight one of those characters as your last normal fight! For example, Clyde will always fight either Baron or Black Heart, and Shoto will always fight either Derrick, Shin, or Shoto Goto
- On Normal and Easy mode, Rival Fights are essentially identical to a normal fight, just with a specific character. However, on Hard mode, Rivals will be given Boss enhancements, which grant them more health, more damage, and some special character-specific buffs or gimmicks to watch out for!
- Some Rival Fights are also guaranteed to be on a specific stage! For example, Shoto vs Derrick or Shoto vs Shin will always be on the Master Locks Dojo

Miscellaneous Addition All Special and Super moves now deal chip damage against blocking opponents. For most attacks, chip damage is 1/5 (20%) of the attack’s normal damage, and cannot cause a KO (it will leave the opponent with 1 HP instead). Certain attacks (mainly beam Supers and other moves that can keep you trapped in block for a long time) have their chip damage reduced to 1/8 (12.5%)
Super Meter Change The amount of Super Meter gained from all sources has been reduced by 25%
Reverse Beats Change Added a prevention system for infinite blockstrings: When you use a reverse beat after hitting a blocking player, you are now locked out of using any more reverse beats until a short time after the opponent exits blockstun

Doodle
After testing around with Doodle a lot more and trying various things, we discovered he was still a BIG problem. He was frustrating to fight and boring to play as due to his most optimal strategy being to spam Doughnuts and Hot Sauce as much as possible, which was only further worsened by the new addition of chip damage. His effectiveness in close quarters was very strong as well, so he practically had no weaknesses. We've made some significant changes to his kit in the hopes of making him more fair and fun for both sides of the matchup!
Sorry, Doodle. We did, in fact, nerf those guns.

Crouching Light Nerf Increased startup time (5f → 7f)

Ultimate Doodle (Down Super) Buffs The following changes have been made to Ultimate Doodle:

- Increased the amount of time the buff lasts for, which in turn allows more chargeless Doughnuts and Haymakers to be performed during a single use of the Super
- While in Ultimate form, the one-at-a-time limit of Molten Doughnuts is now removed
- While in Ultimate form, Fractured Haymaker now becomes an overhead
(Since the goal of these Doodle changes is to encourage using more of his moveset rather than spamming a few select attacks, we wanted to give some buffs to Ultimate Doodle that make it more worth spending meter on compared to Meter Burner. It will now allow Doodle to restore some of his former overpowered glory, if only for a brief time!)

General

Music Addition Added new music track: Shape in the Snow -Vocal Mix-

Blocking Change Blockstun (the time in which you are stuck blocking after being hit) has been increased by 1-2 frames for all attacks
Blocking Change Players in blockstun can no longer be hit by grabs

(This change prevents unfair situations where a player could be locked in blockstun and then immediately grabbed without having any opportunity to avoid it. Namely, this addresses Baron's oppressive grab mixups and Shiverskull's More Swords pressure)

Dash Change Added a small buffer window for inputting a dash during another action, mainly to make dashing out of an attack easier and more consistent
Burst/Reversal Change After being hit by a Break Burst or Reversal, you can now air tech backwards or downwards, rather than being forced into a neutral air tech. Forward air tech is still locked out, however

(This change should help prevent situations where landing a Break Burst or Reversal could grant an immediate advantage, due to the launched player being unable to maneuver effectively afterward. They will now have the option to either quickly return to the ground with a down tech, or back away with a backward tech)

Burst Change Slightly reduced the amount of Burst meter gained from taking damage
Guard Reversal Nerfs Several changes have been made to Guard Reversals.

- Removed the time freeze that previously occurred during the startup of Guard Reversals
- For all characters, slightly increased the startup time and drastically increased the recovery time (though the recovery is sped up upon a successful hit)
- Reduced the duration of blockstun from blocking a Guard Reversal
- Some characters' Guard Reversals have had their hitbox size reduced. See individual character sections
(Following the requests of several community members, Guard Reversals have received numerous hits to their overall strength. The goal with these changes is to introduce more counterplay options against Guard Reversals, and to encourage using them more thoughtfully, as previously there was essentially no penalty for throwing one out at a bad time. They are still a very strong option, but you must now be more careful about when to use them.)

Armour Nerf All Armour (with the exception of Baron's Tough Armour) can now be instantly broken by low attacks

(This is a somewhat experimental change, but similar to Guard Reversals, we want to introduce more counterplay options against Armour, as many players have found it to be a frustrating mechanic to deal with.)

Baron Brightstar

New Character !!! Baron Brightstar is a massive, hulking grappler with a wide array of devastating command grabs. He may be slow, but if he gets in a good position, it's going to be VERY difficult to stop him. Aside from highly-damaging grappling attacks for nearly every situation, Baron also comes with an earth-shattering Crouching Heavy that can launch from nearly full-screen, an armoured punch that can make the opponent crumple in place, and a powerful Super Move that grants Baron PERMANENT armour for a short time. Although he is the estranged father of Clyde Brightstar, it seems that the two of them couldn't possibly be any more different.

Justin O. Guy

New Character !!! Justin Ormal Guy, or just "Guy" for short, is... well, he's just a normal guy. In a world largely populated by people with all sorts of crazy superpowers, Guy is one of the few to be born without one, and sadly for him, it shows. Guy is a pretty pathetic-looking fighter, with absolutely no concept of martial arts, and his only real "weapon" being the briefcase he carries around. He is heavily looked down upon by other competitors, and yet somehow, he perseveres. Maybe, hidden somewhere within this joke of a fighter, is the potential to do incredible things, the likes of which have never been seen before... maybe.

General

Miscellaneous Addition Added screenshake effects to certain moves and actions in the game, mainly for Baron. In addition, there is now a screenshake slider in the Graphics settings, allowing you to adjust the intensity of the screenshake or disable it altogether (this option will most likely be moved to a separate Accessbility section in the future, when we have more accessibility settings to put there)

General

Fonts Change Changed the main large font used throughout the game, and on this game page, to "Bangers." We've also updated many sprites in the game that used the previous font.

(For the past several years we've been using a font called Badaboom, but recently we realised this poses a major problem for if we ever want to commercialize the game, as licensing that particular font would be very expensive. As such we've decided to change to a similar, but royalty-free font. This font change may take some getting used to, but it's to help secure our potential future!)

Controls Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the Heavy button wouldn't function correctly if bound to a trigger.
Audio Settings Change Adjusted the volume range so that the volume can no longer be increased to the point of distorting the audio. What used to be 85% volume is now 100%.
Character Select Screen Addition Added a special message that appears when changing the CPU difficulty to Insane.
Character Select Screen Bug Fix Fixed an issue where selecting Random too quickly would sometimes result in the previously-highlighted character being selected instead.
CPU Opponents Change CPUs set to Insane difficulty no longer have full character resources, as this caused some unintended bugs.
CPU Opponents Bug Fix Attempted to fix an issue in which CPU opponents would sometimes jitter and freak out after having their guard broken.
Music Selection Bug Fix Fixed an issue where selecting a music track other than "Auto" would cause the song name to not display at the top of the screen at the start of the match.
Dashes Bug Fix Fixed an issue where performing a Super or Reversal at the very end of a dash could sometimes cause the Super or Reversal to not activate despite the meter being spent
Super Attacks Bug Fix Fixed an issue where pausing the game as soon as a cinematic begins could cause both players to become frozen and unable to act
Super Attacks Bug Fix Fixed an issue where you could pause during the cinematics of some Supers
Taunts Bug Fix Fixed an issue where pressing an attack button during certain characters' taunts would cause the attack to come out immediately after the taunt, but stop its animation early
Match Intro Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the "Skip" button during intro animations would not change its button icon based on your set controls
Victory Screen Bug Fix Players can no longer start a taunt for a brief period before the screen flashes white to start the victory screen. This should hopefully prevent an issue where taunting just as the victory animation started would keep the screen permanently white and softlock the game
Text Pop-Ups Bug Fix Fixed an issue where unblockable projectiles would not incur the "Unblockable!" text pop-up if they caused a guard break

Stages

Stage Hazards Bug Fix Fixed an issue where stage hazards on Meteor Shower Town, Kingsland Graveyard, and Magma Core would not pause during Super cinematics
Ringout Hazards Bug Fix Fixed an issue where touching the death plane on a ringout stage granted both players a full Super meter
Dasteel Workshop (Hazards) Change Altered the physics of the Stun Grenade throwable item to be more intuitive
Magma Core (Hazards) Change Slightly decreased the cooldown of the lava pillars' active hitboxes
Magma Core (Hazards) Change Setplay objects that can be placed on the retracting platforms will now delete themselves when the platforms begin moving back up.

(The only exception to this is Shiverskull's crew members, who will drop down onto the ground level when the platforms rise)

Magma Core (Hazards) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where ending a round while the rising lava hazard was active would cause the next round to start with both players standing in the lava
Magma Core (Hazards) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where players could repeatedly jump on the retracting platforms as they were rising in order to stay on them
Magma Core (Hazards) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where some setplay objects (such as Shiverskull's crew members and Sylvan's slot machine) could not be placed on the retracting platforms.

(Note that ERROR's void Teleport(); portal still cannot be placed on the platforms, which is intentional, as allowing that would create its own whole slew of issues)

Magma Core (Hazards) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where Shiverskull's "CANNONBALL!!" Super would visually break when used on the retracting platforms

Solo Modes

Arcade Mode Addition Rattlebone CPUs in Arcade Mode now have a chance to be wearing the Disguised costume
Training Mode Change The "Low/Mid/Overhead/Unblockable" pop-up icons that appear when Show Damage Data is enabled will now appear on projectiles as well. Their graphic has also been updated
Training Mode Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the Low/Mid/Overhead/Unblockable icons would spawn out of view if an attack was landed too close to the corner
Training Mode Bug Fix Fixed an issue where, on the Training Mode character select, the training dummy could be selected using Player 2 menu controls
Training Mode Bug Fix Fixed an issue where a training dummy set to Crouch would stop crouching after the player used an attack
Combo Trials Change "Grab" combo steps now tell you how to perform a grab
Combo Trials Bug Fix Fixed an issue where reversals could be performed while a text box was on-screen
Mission Mode Change If the Boss Mode extra is enabled, boss characters can now be selected for Missions and minigames that allow you to select any character. Note that this abides by unlock conditions, so you will need to have a given boss character unlocked to play as them
Minigames Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the centerpoints of the barrels and washing machines in the Destruction minigame were slightly offset, leading to situations where your character wouldn't always turn to face the object
Minigames Fix Added a ceiling to the Nightmare House minigame to prevent players from being able to get on top of the walls
Minigames Fix Extended the hitbox of the Shadow monster upward so it's impossible to jump over it
Boss Fights Addition Added a proper description for a certain star-themed boss. Also updated the descriptions for all other bosses
Boss Fights Change Updated the layout of the Boss Fights menu

Jumping Light Nerf No longer hits overhead.

(Turns out this move was a braindead-easy instant overhead. Gotta keep our future big-bodies safe!)

Thunder Eclipse (Neutral Super) Change If Shoto uses this Super in the corner, he is now moved slightly out of the corner. This is to prevent an issue where the projectile could spawn out of bounds and be unable to hit the opponent

Boss Version Bug Fix Fixed an issue where, during Boss Sylvan's slot machine rain attack, it was possible to Burst in the middle of the stage and hit the hidden Sylvan before he reappeared
Dash Bug Fix Fixed an issue where you could perform an air dash in Wagering Mode by storing the inputs (such as by performing an instant air dash)
Full House Mode Change If both players are Sylvan and are both in Full House mode, projectiles will now only get teleported between them once each before the projectile vanishes completely
Security!! (Neutral Special) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where Withers (the skeleton bodyguard) could block Super attacks

Callowman

Doodle

Taunt (Stryker costume) Bug Fix Fixed a slight animation error in the Stryker costume's taunt
Note: We're still very unsure how to address the issue in which Doodle can remain standing or walking while storing a down charge by holding Taunt. It would be a very easy fix, but some have expressed that they don't want the bug to be fixed. At the same time though, the bug very much goes against Doodle's intended balance philosophy, so we aren't comfortable with keeping it in its current state forever. For now we have left it untouched, but we will continue to try to think of a way to address the issue that we are happy with.

ERROR CS1501

Invalid Action (Neutral Special) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where hitting an opponent with only the final hit of Invalid Action could cause both players to be pushed a significant distance across the stage
Invalid Action (Neutral Special) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where the final hit of Invalid Action could cause Destruction Minigame objects to quickly snap to ERROR's position. This could be used to push both ERROR and the object out of bounds

Bosses

Shooting Star - Misc Change Corrected a mistake where Shooting Star's grab was listed on his move list, which caused some players to assume it was a unique command normal
Shooting Star - Starry Night (Super) Bug Fix Fixed an issue where Shooting Star's Super projectile would not vanish if it exploded before reaching the ground
Zorb - Wrath Beam (Neutral Special) Nerf Slightly increased startup time

Slightly reduced hitstun
Removed wall bounce property
(Zorb isn't meant to be that hard of a boss so these changes should help make it a bit more fun)
