Introduction
Kamen Rider G3-X
Kamen Rider G3-X, occasionally called Gex if you spicy, is a normal guy in a high-tech suit. He's a pretty cool normal guy though, as evidenced by being friends with Agito and having a better KDA than Gills.
Being a normal guy, G3-X's gameplan isn't what you'd call fancy. He's got a gun and the G3 system is very heavy, so he's pretty shredded and can punch very hard.
This is all a roundabout way of saying that he has some issues and isn't exactly a top tier contender. Most notably, his buttons are slow and awkward, and despite having many distinct projectiles, they've all got major problems hitting the opponent in a way that's favorable for you.
It's not all bad for G3-X, though. Although they're still slower than you'd like, he has some genuinely good buttons, such as a 5H dash punch that can be used as a link starter. He uses the Assault battle style, allowing him to generate a lot of meter that he can use to supplement those normals and cover their whiffs. And in spite of how iffy those projectiles can be, when they hit, your opponent is in for a world of hurt.
Playstyle
Kamen Rider G3-X is a heavy zoner who can quickly deal massive damage. |
Pros |
Cons |
- High Damage: G3-X's individual hits deal a lot of damage, and when he can get a surplus of meter, he also has a highly damaging Assault activation loop.
- Unblockable Hookshot: G3-X's dS allows him to punish an overly patient opponent with an unblockable even at range.
- Assault Style: Thanks to the Assault Style, G3-X is able to build a lot of meter, and cover a lot of his weaknesses with regular access to RC.
|
- High Commitment: G3-X's ground projectiles have a ton of recovery, and if the opponent makes them whiff, you're left open for a very long time.
- Has Difficulty Attacking: G3-X's range of attack makes it difficult to get anything started against opponents who don't want to come to him, or who can overwhelm him offensively.

A dash punch. One of the highlights of G3-X's moveset. A little slow to start up, but covers a ton of forward distance. This makes it ideal as an approach, especially when you have an RC available to cover its recovery.

G3-X fires a machinegun volley wildly in a cone. This can be a useful zoning tool, but needs to be applied very carefully for a number of reasons, all to do with its lengthy total duration and recovery time.
Each hit has long grounded hitstun, ensuring that they'll combo despite many of them missing. The final shot in G3-X's volley is fired directly forward. As long as this last shot connects, G3-X has frame advantage on hit.
However, if the opponent is hit in the air, they will be knocked back to full-stage distance. This can also be advantageous for G3-X if he wants distance from the opponent.
The big drawback to this attack is that if it hits in an awkward way and misses its latter hits, it's extremely common for G3-X to be very negative on hit, if not punishable.

During Assault Mode, G3-X instead briefly aims, then fires a missile. Although the startup and coverage become much worse for this version, a hit will deal massive damage and crumple a grounded opponent. On hit, G3-X is able to follow up with an Antares Shot (dS) for a full combo followup.

G3-X fires an unblockable hookshot. On hit, his opponent is pulled towards him for a combo followup. A core tool in all parts of G3-X's gameplan. Be very careful whiffing this attack, however, due to its lengthy recovery.

G3-X fires a missile downward at an angle. A key neutral tool, this missile has a very nice hitbox that is somewhat difficult for many characters to whiff punish when used low to the ground. Crumples the opponent on hit for a followup Antares Shot (dS).

Standard Dodge Shot type Rider Art. G3-X backdashes with full invulnerability and fires a cone of shots in front of him. Costs 1 stock of the Rider Gauge.
In G3-X's case, this cone of shots is unfortunately very unreliable. It's very easy for G3-X to go off-axis by touching the wall behind him before firing, and completely whiff against an opponent running directly towards him. This is still a very useful Rider Art as an invincible attack that gains you distance, but be aware that it will often miss.

G3-X uses the Assault Style. Pressing Style Action with at least two stocks of Rider Gauge at any time (besides during hitstun) activates Assault Mode.
During Assault Mode, G3-X gains the following extended strings:
- 5LLLL
- 5LHH
- 5S (replaces Cerberus Volley with GX Launcher)
|
|
Combos
- G3-X's standard meterless link combo. An extremely useful combo that builds a lot of meter without spending any.
- 5HH > 2H > RC > dS > 2HHS
- An extended combo using one RC. Thanks to Instant Charge, this combo has a net gain of 1 stock of the Rider Gauge.
- 5HH > Style Action > [2H > RC > dS] repeat xN > Assault Mode Ends > Climax Time > 2H > RC + Rider Finale
- G3-X's touch of death combo using Assault mode. This combo deals its damage very quickly, making it well-suited to finishing a guard-crushed opponent or forcing an early burst.
- However, the exact amount of meter needed to properly set this up varies wildly. If Climax Time is triggered too soon, G3-X cannot combo into Rider Finale. It may be necessary to waste some Rider Gauge before activating Assault Mode.
