Bars and Meters

BVN HUD.png

Health

All characters have the same amount of health. You lose health by getting hit by your opponent's attacks. When your health goes to 0, you lose round. If time goes to 0 and neither player is at 0 health, the winner is determined by who has more health.

Stamina

Also labelled as "Chakra" for Naruto characters and "Spiritual" for Bleach characters and Kenshin, Stamina is a resource used for various of actions such as blocking, dashing, Ghost Step, Ghost Jump, Ghost Drop, and Combo Breakers. When all of your Stamina is depleted, you briefly go into an "Overheat" mode where you cannot do most of the actions listed earlier and charge stamina much slower until you exit Overheat overtime.

Assists

The assist meter is used to summon an assist. You start the game with a full assist meter. Using the assist will set the assist meter to 0 and will recharge passively overtime. All assists have the same cooldown time.

Super Meter

You start the match with 0 Super Meter. You can have up to 3 bars of super meter. You gain super meter passively by hitting your opponent, getting hit by your opponent, and whiffing certain attacks which vary in how much meter gain it has. Super Meter is used for Supers, Ghost Step, Ghost Drop, Ghost Jump and Combo Breakers.

Basic Mechanics

Blocking

Blocking allows you to negate almost all damage from opposing attacks. However, it will also drain your Stamina and once all of your Stamina is depleted, you will be in a "Guard Break" state when you block the next attack which puts you in hitstun and allows the opponent to get a punish. The amount of Stamina depleted is relative to the amount of damage a move does with the exception of moves with a guard break property which instead depletes most of your Stamina.

Dashing

Dashing gives you frame 1 (for most characters) invincibility and moves you a certain distance which allows you to dodge attacks. Using a Dash on the ground depletes 20 Stamina and using it the air depletes 30 Stamina. You cannot Dash more than once in the air. If you run out of Stamina, you are unable to Dash until you are no longer in Overheat.

Jumping

You can jump up to two times before landing. Walking off a platform will not reduce your jump count. Some moves that put you in the air may or may not set your jump count to 1, only allowing you to jump once, but it varies for each move.

Supers

All Supers cost Super Meter. I, W+I and K+I cost 1 bar of meter and S+I costs 3 bars of meter. Supers cannot be cancelled with Ghost Steps, Ghost Jumps or Ghost Drops and cannot be escaped with a Combo Breaker.

Combo Breakers

Combo Breakers allow you to escape a combo with the cost of Stamina and 1 bar of meter. There are two types of Combo Breakers:

  • Substitute Jutsu - Exclusive to Naruto characters, it teleports them to a (usually) safer position.
  • Reitsu Burst - Exclusive to Bleach characters and Kenshin, it summons a huge burst around them which knocks down the opponent and grants Yellow Armor temporarily.

However, in certain conditions you CANNOT do a Combo Breaker which are the following:

  • If you have been hit by a grab or guard breaker.
  • If you have taken more than 210 damage in a single combo.

Ghost Steps, Ghost Drops, and Ghost Jumps

These three mechanics share almost identical functions. They can be cancelled with any move (except for supers) with the cost of 60% of a bar of Super Meter and a large portion of your Stamina. When used, it will briefly freeze your opponent and move you a moderate amount of distance in one of the following directions depending on which one of these you do:

  • Ghost Step is used on the ground and moves you in the direction your opponent is at.
  • Ghost Jump moves you upwards.
  • Ghost drop is done in the air and moves you downwards.

Jump and Dash Cancels

Certain moves have properties where you can cancel an attack with a dash or jump.

Knockdowns

There are two types of knockdowns:

  • Soft Knockdowns allow you to do a quick getup when landing from a knockdown unless you have taken 240 or more damage.
  • Hard Knockdowns prevent you from doing a quick getup completely.

Quick Getup

If you press L when you land from a Soft Knockdown, you will get up much faster than normal. For some reason if you do it while your character is facing to the right side you will slide backwards.

Armor

Certain moves have armor which reduce the amount of damage and knockback you take. Being hit while in an armored state will deplete your Stamina relative to the amount of damage the attack does. There are two types of armor:

  • White Armor - Reduces damage by 35% and negates most knockback. White Armor cannot armor Supers. Moves can also bypass White Armor if you run out of Stamina.
  • Yellow Armor - Reduces damage by 70% and negates all knockback. Yellow Armor is able to armor Supers.

Advanced Mechanics

Super Dash Cancel (SDC)

An SDC is when you cancel a grounded dash with a Super. This is primarily used to punish attacks during a dash without having to experience the recovery frames of a dash.

Parrying

Parrying is an unintended mechanic where if you let go of block at the correct time while an attack hits you while you were blocking, you will experience much less blockstun. However if you parry a move with a hitbox that lasts for a while you will get hit you cannot use a Ghost Step to cancel out of it.
