Introduction

Mako Mankanshoku (満艦飾 マコ)

Mako is a hyperactive, carefree and loving girl who seems to cling to anyone she befriends, emphasized by how she becomes inseparable from Ryūko very quickly. She is also quite lazy, as shown in how she goes to sleep as soon as class begins, humorously clashing with her hyperactivity

Overview

Mako is the premiere snowball character of the game. She levels up with her Tension Gauge to become stronger for doing well, eventually becoming the best character in the game at Tension Level 4. Mako starts off weak, but all she needs is 1-3 hits and she potentially has just won the game, as she can snowball extremely quickly with her ability to sustain offensive momentum and the usage of her best tool, 5C (commonly referred to as "Bat"). Her 5C is a massive near infinite threshold armored break attack that can be canceled into itself and can hit sidesteps, making it near impossible to defend against for long. Her ability to bat cancel can be used to skip neutral, scare your opponents into making mistakes, or just tank nearly anything she wishes. With all of this, she is one of the most stressful characters to be at the receiving end of, as all she needs is one hit.


Playstyle

Pros Cons
  • Tension: Tension can be gained very easily, as she has guaranteed ways to gain levels such as using sp.C. With each increase in level, she gains enormous buffs such as giving certain attacks armor, more damage, new properties, etc, which can let her snowball to victory with potentially just one hit, and if she reaches Tension Level 4, she becomes the strongest character in the game.
  • The Bat: Mako's most infamous move, 5C, is one of the best moves in the game, being a near infinite threshold armored unblockable reversal that hits sidesteps and can be dash canceled into itself. With her ability to dash cancel it, she can rapidly buffer the armor of 5C, d.C, and j.C to skip neutral and smash through the opponent's guard.
  • Failsafe: Mako has a high health pool (12,000) and many failsafe options that make it difficult to stop her from gaining Tension even if she makes mistakes, such as gaining Tension if she is able to counter hit Counter Burst out of the opponent's combo or winning Bloody Valor as the defender. Mako also has certain moves knock herself down during recovery at lower Tension levels, this makes most punish options from most characters whiff as they cannot hit OTG.
  • Flying Mako: If Mako achieves Valor Level 1, she can dash cancel her j.C so fast to the point where she ascends rapidly, she eventually hits the ceiling and she can do this forever to time out most characters if need be off of one hit.
  • Tension: While Tension can be gained easily if Mako gets in, she will always have to start the game in Tension Level 1, which is rather weak and leaves her at a considerable disadvantage when fighting characters that can zone her out or just run away from her, she also requires heavy momentum as Tension can also be lost by blocking or being hit with a counter hit Counter Burst.
  • Double Edged Valor: While Mako's Valor does give her access to Flying Mako, it nerfs 5C. Her 5C gains a threshold armored run before the bat swing, and for the swing to initiate the run has to hit the opponent first, however the run itself cannot hit sidesteps.


Valor Level 1

  • Tension level improves actions and adds all sorts of baffling effects.
  • Tension levels raise faster and lower slower.
  • If at Tension level 1 or 2, it will be boosted to level 3.
  • If at Tension level 4, Mako's SP Gauge will automatically fill over time.
  • Meter Multiplier is increased to 1.1x.


Valor Level 2

  • Special break attacks powered up to super.
  • Blocking now grants Tension instead of degrading it.
  • If at Tension level 1 or 2, it will be boosted to level 3.
  • Meter Multiplier is increased to 1.25x.


Valor Level 3

  • Tension level is maxed out.
  • Meter Multiplier is increased to 1.5x.

  • Mako utilizes a unique mechanic known as "Tension", each level of Tension increases her damage and movement while also enhancing her moveset.
  • Mako can gain Tension Levels by achieving Valor Level 1, 2, or 3, Drawing in Bloody Valor as the attacker, landing 5AAA (Ender), 4/6A (Ender), sp.A (Tension Level 1 & 2 only), 5C, d.C, j.C, Rolling C, Counter Burst (counter hit), or Winning Bloody Valor as the defender.
  • Mako's Tension can degrade by Blocking, losing a Clash, being put into a Knockdown, being put into a Sliding Knockdown, hitting the opponent with Counter Burst (no counter hit), hitting the opponent with sp.A (Tension Level 3 & 4 only), being Guard Crushed, Drawing in Bloody Valor as the defender, whiffing 5C, d.C, j.C, or Rolling C 3 times in a row, or whiffing sp.A, sp.C, Counter Burst, Valor Burst, and FIBER LOST SECRET ARTS.
