Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga/Netplay

From Mizuumi Wiki

How do you play this game online?

Netplay is done by opening two instances of the game via emulator (PPSSPP), which are connected to each other via the game's network mode. In order to let both players play, the host have to invite the other player via Parsec.

Parsec? Doesn't PPSSPP have built-in netplay?

Yes. Unfortunately, Ys vs Trails works very poorly with it due to how its netcode works. While most (contemporary) fighting games uses delay-based netcode, Falcom decided to use lockstep netcode instead. It follows a similar principle to delay-based netcode, except it doesn't add any delay to player inputs to make up for long distances and bad Internet. Here's what happens when trying to netplay with adHoc (the PSP's netplay function).

How do I set up the game?

Follow PPSSPP's official FAQ regarding multiplayer play, specifically the part regarding connecting two instances of the emulator. If you find this to be tedious to do for every session, Geofront (the group who made the English translation) generously provided a 4-player setup which is much easier to use. It can be downloaded here.
