Bloody Roar Extreme/Uriko the Half-Beast

Introduction

Uriko is a lightweight pixie character with a focus on close range pressure. She uses a simplified version of the Rokugo Combo Ring (Phoenix Style) with relatively few gaps compared to the other Rokugo users. While her individual hit damage is fairly low, her constant pressure and good air reset potential make up for it. However, Uriko struggles when her opponent can keep her out as most of her attacks have poor range; on top of this, she has some of the worst Beast defense modifiers in the game, causing her to take more damage (and thus lose her Beast Form faster). Both of Uriko's Beast Drives are interesting: Surprise Cat Pounce can be steered around the arena and bounce to increase its damage (though both players are able to control it), while Dance of the Phoenix has different effects depending on how it lands or interacts with the stage.

Playstyle
BREX icon uriko.png Uriko is a lightweight rushdown character who relies on whittling down her opponent with a wide assortment of fast, tricky resets and mixups.
Pros Cons
  • Strong Rushdown: Thanks to her simplified Rokugo Combo Ring having less gaps than the other two Rokugo users, Uriko is able to lay the pressure on thick and keep her opponent locked down for long periods at a time.
  • Rewarding Mixups: On top of the mixup capabilities afforded to her by her Rokugo Combo Ring, Uriko is exceptionally good at enforcing resets to keep opponents guessing, and make them hurt when they guess wrong.
  • Small Target: Uriko, petite as she is, is able to make landing a hit on her a more difficult prospect than one might expect. Thanks to both her small hurtboxes and her quick movement, she is more than capable of navigating around many of the game's strong neutral tools.
  • Poor Defense: Sporting notably low defense modifiers in both Human and Beast Forms, Uriko often pays dearly for any mistakes she makes on defense.
  • Short Range: While she does have good mobility to cover for this, the short length of Uriko's limbs ultimately means that she can be effectively shut down by any character able and willing to keep her out.
  • Low Damage: Uriko's focus on relentless mixups and resets is primarily due to her low per-hit damage output — her "death by a thousand cuts" gameplan means she lacks the explosivity of many other characters.
