Shenlong is a hard-hitting 6-Ring/Rokugo character with many Guard Breaks and Cancel Points on his attacks. He has great range and amazing hitboxes, but many of his attacks are slow to come out. To make up for this, many of Shenlong's attacks have built-in crushing or evasive properties, forcing his opponent to constantly make guesses as to what is coming next and try to counter, only to be punished very hard. On top of his strong mixup game, Shenlong is able to apply safe pressure with his 66P elbow cancels, which come out fast and are amazing at interrupting attacks. His command throw is strong and meshes well with his elbow cancels, letting him setup for a full combo. Shenlong is able to convert damage off of almost everything, and almost all of his launchers become untechable if used against an airborne or staggered opponent, making his resets and air mixups deadly. Lastly, Shenlong has some of the best Beast Drives in the game: Tiger Darkness Attack deals significant damage and even restores a portion of Shenlong's Beast Gauge on hit.

Introduction

Shenlong is a hard-hitting character with access to the Rokugo Combo Ring (Snake Style), along with many Guard Break opportunities and Cancel Points on his attacks. He has great range and amazing hitboxes, but many of his attacks are slow to come out. To make up for this, many of Shenlong's attacks have built-in crushing or evasive properties, forcing his opponent to constantly make guesses as to what is coming next and try to counter, only to be punished very hard.

On top of his strong mixup game, Shenlong is able to apply safe pressure and dominate neutral with his 66P elbow cancels, which come out fast and are amazing at interrupting attacks. His Command Throw is strong and meshes well with his elbow cancels, letting him set up for a full combo. Shenlong is able to convert damage off of almost everything, and almost all of his launchers become untechable if used against an airborne or staggered opponent, making his resets and air mixups deadly. Lastly, Shenlong has quite possibly the best Beast Drive in the game: Tiger Darkness Attack deals significant damage and even restores a portion of Shenlong's Beast Gauge on hit.

Pros Cons
  • Suffocating Pressure: With a large selection of Guard Breaks and Cancel Points at his disposal, including his infamous 66P elbow, Shenlong is exceptionally good at locking opponents down and forcing them to deal with his very potent mixups.
  • Solid Neutral: While Shenlong primarily wants to be in the opponent's face, he is more than capable of backing up when he needs to, thanks to a great backdash and surprisingly good range on many of his attacks.
  • Scary Beast Form: As the game's other Tiger, Shenlong certainly lives up to the standard set by his fellow, with a great Beast damage modifier and some of the best Beast Drives in the game.
  • Committal and Demanding: While Shenlong's pressure is very strong, it is also susceptible to be interrupted at many points thanks to somewhat slow startup across the board (especially in his Rokugo Combo Ring). His most consistent remedy for this, 66P cancel pressure, is very technically demanding, requiring that Shenlong have both good judgement and execution stamina to keep his opponent locked down.
  • Needs Beast Form: Shenlong has a notably poor defense modifier in Human Form, causing him to take very high damage if he's caught unaware. This makes him reliant on his Beast Form not just for his offense, but for his general survivability as well.
