  • Mounted: While on his horse, Diego cannot be downed by a sweep, be thrown, or be crumpled, but also loses access to Stylish Guard, Stylish Evade, and Throw.
  • Holy Corpse Parts: Diego can pick up the Holy Corpse parts, gaining different blessings with each part obtained.
  • Scary Monsters: Diego has an install that turns him into a dinosaur for a limited amount of time, drastically changing his kit and giving him unlimited armor.
  • Aerial Chain Beat: Diego can chain his aerial attacks, allowing him to have different combos and confirms.

  • Holy Corpse Reliant: Diego's "Gouge" does not knock down naturally and requires the use of "Are you ready?!" to cause knockdown. However, this is only available when Diego has at least one Holy Corpse part, meaning that knocking down the opponent without one can be very specific.
  • Bad HHA: Diego's HHA has a lot of recovery once it is finished and does not allow for him to create long combos while in the form, making it extremely risky to use in situations where it does not guarantee a victory.

Holy Corpse

All of the Steel Ball Run characters have the Holy Corpse mechanic. This spawns three parts of the Holy Corpse over time for the Steel Ball Run characters to collect. Each piece collected provides a buff to the character that is active until the character loses it via being knocked down, which drops the most recent piece collected. For Diego, the buffs are applied as follows:

  • One: Gains access to "Are you ready?!".
  • Two: Increases the performance of skills.
  • Three: Increases the rate at which the HH Gauge increases.

Diego partially transforms, readies his claws, and charges forward in a melee strike. If the attack connects, he sics three small dinosaurs on the opponent that lunge and bite at them. Afterwards, he leaps and delivers a series of relentless claw-handed blows to his opponent's body, and unleashes a superhumanly powerful upwards chop to to finish the assault.
