Pentagon

Story

Pentagon is an angel-winged, high-flying Justice Choujin from California, USA. Aside from his obvious striking appearance, he is known for having the greatest jumping power in the Choujin community (for what that's worth), and for being popular with the ladies. In his first appearance, Pentagon primarily fights with his acrobatic aerial techniques, which ultimately ended with him getting gored by Warsman's Bear Claws. He got better somehow, and returned for the Dream Choujin Tag Tournament along with his cousin Black Hole, as the "4D Killer Combo". As part of his 4D wrestling style, Pentagon is now able to swap places with his opponent instantaneously, and he is can literally stop time with the (appropriately named) Stop the Time technique. Why he did not make use of these moves in his earlier bout was not particularly explained.

Pentagon's favorite food is hamburgers. This is deemed important enough info to be mentioned both in his personal bio, as well as in the form of a remark in his image song.

Gameplay

After a significant fall from grace from the first Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix, Pentagon now epitomizes the "fragile speedster" or "pixie" character archetype, with buttons that are fast, long-ranged, and with built-in movement. All these combined allows Pentagon to play a fast-paced neutral where (often with the help of meter,) Pentagon can convert stray hits into full juggles. As an icing on the cake, Pentagon has his Stop the Time (421A+S) super, a unique counter super that freezes the opponent on successful counter, allowing Pentagon to do unique time-stop combos for potentially over 70% damage in optimal conditions.

The big trade-off to this is Pentagon does well below-average damage; his damage rating of 11 is tied for lowest in the game, to the point that his optimal situation combos are frequently out-damaged by the average character's day 1 juggles. Exacerbating this problem is Pentagon's lack of a special throw to easily meter dump for damage, meaning he has to settle for his markedly inferior hitgrabs. On a different negative note, Pentagon's frame data leaves quite a lot to be desired, with several of his otherwise best pokes being quite unsafe; this gives his neutral game a significant asterisk, where a poorly timed or spaced poke, and/or a flubbed block/whiff punish, can lead to Pentagon being punished harshly in-turn.

Counter move that is active frame 1, countering everything but supers.

  • On successful counter, this move will "copy" the move that hits it; for example, countering a throw will cause Pentagon to do that throw on the opponent, while countering a launcher will cause the opponent to be launched instead.
  • Although the counter copies the countered move's attribute and opponent's meter gain value, the damage will be scaled to Pentagon's damage rating of 11 (see formula below). As this is the lowest damage rating in the game, countered moves will usually do noticeably less damage.
  • This counter does not actually have a recovery; it is active for the entire 52 frames of its animation. If a strike is countered, Pentagon still needs to finish the full animation of this counter, effectively making the remainder frames of the counter the "recovery".
  • Countering an opponent's strike while Pentagon or the opponent has True Green KKD active will not reduce the countered move's hitstun.

Counter super, triggered when hit by any non-super strike/throw.

  • On successful counter, this super freezes the opponent in place for 300 frames, allowing Pentagon to get free hits in. With the right combos and the optimal situation (standing opponent, proximity to the ropes, etc.), Pentagon can rack up over 700 damage off of a successful time-stop.
  • Like 421S, This move has no recovery, but unlike that move, Pentagon will recover instantly if the counter is triggered, so being hit earlier in the super's active frames does not take away from the time-stop duration.
  • There are several quirks with this super under the hood: if a move hits the super on its first active frame, the time-stop will trigger, but without the character cut-in or SFX normally present with supers. Upon successful counter, Pentagon will get 2 frames of full invuln if the countered move is still active.
