Eva Beatrice

Introduction

Originally some sort of inner being in Eva Ushiromiya, she became a witch after Eva solved the riddle of the Epitaph. She was recognized as Beatrice's successor, and was extremely cruel. She often used her powers to kill and resurrect people multiple times (usually in brutal ways) before finishing them off. She is sometimes referred to in the text as "The Cruel Witch", and later on, "The Black Witch". She is the main antagonist in Banquet of the Golden Witch

Pros
+ Good offensive mobility, one of 2 characters with an airdash.
+ Excellent tools for rush down pressure and setups.
+ Builds guard break easily with jelly setups.
+ Jellies allow for many pressure setups, absorbing damage touch bursts and reversals.
+ Ability synergizes with everyone in the cast.

Cons
- Short range normals.
- Can burn meter very quickly while pressuring.
- Very few defensive tools.

Health - 1450.

Ability

Berserk
Increases your attack power for a while. A simple but effective trait.
Damage is increased by approximately 20%.
a short duration ability which affects other character's meta world's and because of the duration the meta world will end or end shortly afterwards after doing your meta super in the meta world even if you do it immediately which makes many abilities go to waste. however you can take advantage of the short duration because it allows you to use your meta world more often which will be useful for 1 time use abilities such as beato's and Rosa's.

Move List

Normal Moves

EvaBeatrice-c5A.png
【c.5A】

A tiny kick. Hits mid. Average 5a. rather slow.

EvaBeatrice-f5A.png
【f.5A】

A short poke with the butt of Eva's staff. Hits mid. decent range. rather slow

EvaBeatrice-c5B.png
【c.5B】

Eva knees the opponent in the groin. Hits mid. very small hitbox (smaller than her A attacks) but is actually quicker than both her 5a's and the same speed as her 2a. decent move to use instead of C.5a.

EvaBeatrice-f5B.png
【f.5B】

Eva swings her staff a circle immediately in front of her. Hits mid. has a very long recovery if whiffed or if not canceled.

EvaBeatrice-c5C.png
【c.5C】

Eva brings the head of her staff down on her opponent. Dash cancelable. Hits mid. has huge knockback and most of the time 2c will not be able to be used after this move invalidating some combos however some combos may need this huge knockback.

EvaBeatrice-f5C.png
【f.5C】

Eva kicks out with her front leg, pushing her forward. Dash cancelable. Hits mid. decent midscreen poke.<BR

EvaBeatrice-2A.png
【2A】

A short range poke with the butt of Eva's staff. Hits mid. a crouching version of her F.5a.

EvaBeatrice-2B.png
【2B】

Eva kicks out with her leg, pushing her forward somewhat. Hits low. similar to ange's 2b only that this moves you forward.

EvaBeatrice-2C.png
【2C】

Eva sweeps the opponents legs out from under them with her staff. Hits low. Knocks down on hit. a fairly good poke. beware that this move has huge recovery frames and if you whiff the opponent has a chance to gain in. however due to this move's rather long range you shouldn't be able to whiff it.

EvaBeatrice-6B.png
【6B】

Eva uses her staff as a baseball bat to launch the opponent into the air. Hits mid. has a rather slow startup. big hitbox. nothing can really combo into this unless you are being rather creative.

EvaBeatrice-6C.png
【6C】

Eva pushes off her staff to kick the opponent in the face. If used immediately next to the opponent, it will whiff, but Eva will land on the opponent's other side in a cross up. Eva will not cross-up if the opponent is deep in the corner. Overhead. can be canceled into an SP move or meta super to expand on the damage. if it hits on the last few frames you can do a 2a after it allowing you to combo further afterwards.

EvaBeatrice-JA.png
【j.5A】

A short range poke with the butt of Eva's staff. Hits high. nice position.

EvaBeatrice-JB.png
【j.5B】

A short range aerial kick. Hits high. rather boring and normal J.b.

EvaBeatrice-JC.png
【j.5C】

Eva swings her staff in a downward arc. Hits high. rather quick move for an aerial attack. decent move.

EvaBeatrice-J2C.png
【j.2C】

Eva immediately falls to the ground while stabbing the ground below her with her staff. Hits high. needs to hit deep in the opponent to be able to combo after. not a very fascinating move however it is good to use to land on the ground quicker after doing an assault touch or neutral touch.

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
【B+C】

Eva grabs the opponent by the shoulder, knees them in the groin few times, then sends the opponent flying backwards. Can be air-teched. If you predict that the opponent will air-tech, it can be punished very easily with 214C, regardless of midscreen or corner.

Special Moves

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Air Dash 「空中ダッシュ」 ― j.66

Eva can only airdash forward. No backwards air-dashing. Using her airdash after a high jump actually allows her to jump over the entirety of Virgilia's Goat Rush Hour super. although it is harder than other games eva has the ability to IAD (instant air dash) which can be useful for mixup's. good offensive mobility tool.

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Red Spider's Thread 「赤き蜘蛛の糸」 ― 236ABC

Eva uses her staff to launch a spider web that she uses to drag the opponent towards her. A version has the shortest range, C version the longest range. If it hits, it can combo into 5A for a B&B, otherwise is provides pressure opportunities. good for blockstrings and tricks as the C version hits quite far which is good for a surprise attack on zoners. hitbox is very low. All version hit low.
all versions do 210 damage.

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Three Colored Jelly Time 「三色ゼリータイム」 ― 22ABC
  • (A version) - Eva summons a red jelly immediately in front of her that slowly moves forward. It acts as a wall that pushes the opponent back as the jelly moves forward, possibly to aid in keeping the opponent cornered.
  • (B version) - Eva summons a yellow jelly slightly in front of her that remains stationary. If placed between her and the opponent, it acts as an unmoving wall, forcing the opponent to jump over it if they wish to approach. If placed after knocking down the opponent, it allows Eva to "corner" opponents outside of the corner, similar to Hisui's 22C chair in Melty Blood.
  • (C version) - Eva summons a green jelly behind the opponent that slowly moves towards Eva. It acts as a wall that allows Eva to "corner" opponents outside of the corner, similar to Hisui's 22C chair in Melty Blood.

In more recent versions, the jellies are easily broken by normals, projectiles, and more. However, when jellies are broken by attacks, they cancel out the hit box entirely, allowing for Eva to run forward and get a free combo. This includes nullifying damage touch bursts. jellies are fantastic okizeme and pressure tools that should be used very often. fantastic pressure tool.

EvaBeatrice-214A.png
EvaBeatrice-214B.png
EvaBeatrice-214C.png
Staff of the One-Winged Eagle 「片翼の鷲の杖」 ― 214ABC
  • (A version) - Eva takes a step forward, swings her staff in a horizontal arc, then returns to where she was originally. very long hitbox and good quick and long ranged attack. does 270 damage. Hits mid.
  • (B version) - Eva takes a step forward and swings her staff over her head in a vertical arc. Pushes her forward slightly. Large amount of knockback if it hits. rather quick and good as a BNB ender. Hits mid. knocks down. does 240 damage.
  • (C version) - Eva pauses for a moment, then takes a step forward, swings her staff over her head in a vertical arc, then returns to where she was. Knocks the opponent down if it hits. Overhead. air unblockable. very slow startup however HUGE hitbox and great move to use if there is a jelly out in front of the opponent in the corner. midpoint of the attack she is considered airborne. knockdown immediately on hit. deals 270 damage.

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Dream of Flying 「空を飛ぶ夢」 ― j.63214ABC

Eva grabs the opponent in mid-air and brings them straight down to slam into the ground. a command grab which is very quick. good proration. once used in the air you cannot do any other inputs in the air. stops your momentum. you cannot OTG after this move. ideal meterless air combo ender. all versions deal 315 damage.

SP Supers

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Spider Crush 「蜘蛛潰し」 ― 236A+B

Eva spawns a spider web at about the same place as 236C does. If it lands, she pulls the opponent in and hits them with her staff which forces a wallslam. Hits low. Does 549 damage. Can be comboed after in the corner. can be used to quickly punish long recovery moves however note that this move makes eva move her body forward a huge amount meaning you could get hit by leftover active frames unexpectedly. for that reason 214EX is better. this is mainly used for combos leading into air combo's.

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Special Giant Jelly 「スペシャル巨大ゼリー」 ― 22A+B

After a slight delay, Eva summons a giant purple jelly immediately in front of her that knocks down on hit. On block it half fills the opponent's guard meter. Overhead. has long startup frames and does not combo from anything apart from 6b. a move thats good for setups but nothing more. however there will be lots of good opportunities to use this in setup's so dont underestimate it. deals a huge amount of guard damage.

EvaBeatrice-214A+B 1.png
Imperial Wrath of the Tyrant 「暴君の逆鱗」 ― 214A+B

Eva swings her staff 4 times, dealing 528 damage. All swings hit mid except the final swing. The final swing is and overhead and forces knockdown. Has invincibility on startup. can be used as a reversal however it is best as a reversal if the opponent is doing a grounded string as this move does not have a very high hitbox. this move has a lot of invincibility on startup and is almost unpunishable on block (most characters cant punish this move on block) and it has a decent horizontal hitbox however this move is not really recommended as a reversal as it is rather slow and some moves can easily bait it and if the opponent was in the air when this hit the opponent could recover and punish you also because there is a gaps in between the 3rd and last hit the opponent could rather easily counter reversal it especially characters like ronove (214 series) and erika (22 series).

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Be Careful around Iron Railings 「でも鉄柵には気を付けて」 ― j.63214A+B

Eva grabs the opponent out of the air and slams them down onto a pointed, iron railing. Has a much larger reach than the regular version. deals good damage and has very quick startup. Eva cannot do any other move in the air after using this move. deals 519 damage. unlike the regular versions this move can be OTG after which allows you to set up a 22 jelly. it is not prorated by anything which makes it a fantastic combo ender. the main reason you would use this over the normal version is because you can do OTG 2b 2c 22a jelly as oki and that this move can punish moves in the air better than the normal version.

Exclusive SP Super

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
All You Can Eat Chocolate and Rare Cheese 「チョコとレアチーズの食べ放題」 ― 63214A+B

Eva kicks the opponent, stunning them, then buries them under a mountain of chocolate and rare cheese. Acts as a grab. always combo's from F.5c. rather short range and does not grab the opponent if they are in the air meaning its usefulness is rather limited. its best to do a meta super and do her meta super rather or air command grab than this. However it is worth noting that unusually this grab is one of the few command grab's that can stun.

Level 2 Super

EvaBeatrice-236236C.png
Why don't you just drop dead?「ヘソ噛んで死んじゃえヴァ」 ― 236236C

Eva slides forward until she makes contact with the opponent or gets hit and, if the opponent wasn't blocking or was being comboed, initiates a 7 hit automatic combo that deals 645 damage and slams the opponent into the opposite wall on the final hit. Your everyday SP2. Though you really dont need to use this unless you know this will stun or you need to punish something quickly.

Meta Super

EvaBeatrice-temp.png
Closed Room of Spiderwebs 「蜘蛛の巣の密室」 ― 641236C

Eva encapsulates her opponents in a spider web attached to her staff which she then whips around her head, slamming the opponent into the ground several times dealing 798 damage. Acts as a grab. Ignores all scaling except for stun scaling. Ignores Berserk damage boost. Extraordinarily quick (0-1 frames of activation) and so it is usable as a reversal or a quick punish. After a normal guard touch into EVA you can meta declare and quickly do this meta super before the opponent recovering however oddly it will only do 552 damage in that case. if the opponent was stunned earlier on and Eva uses this move after that it will do 552 damage instead of 798 damage. very good combo ender.

Partners

Eva is a good partner that synergies with many other character's. Eva's ability goes well with everyone as it is a simple damage boost which is very useful for all character's. Eva has fantastic corner pressure and is good at neutral play with her most disadvantageous phase is being in the corner as she does not have a proper reversal however her meta super and air command grab can help with gappy blockstrings. however partners can help Eva when she is in such situation's. you want your partner to help Eva get the opponent in the corner and in a disadvantageous position so that eva can easily guardbreak and go in for a good combo. Eva is quite a dominating partner when you have the opponent in the corner and maybe in neutral as well also jellies allow you to neutral touch quite easily when you are some distance away from the opponent. one of the big downfalls in choosing Eva as a partner is that her ability makes the meta world very short making many abilities not as good as they could be such as battler's or virgillia's however on the other hand some character's with 1 time abilities could benefit from this as then Eva or the partner will be able to abuse that ability such as beato's and Rosa's ability.

Rosa

Rosa and Eva work quite well together. Eva who's combo's are mainly ground orientated and so is rather easily burstable will benefit quite a lot from detachment which does not allow it also due to the speed the meta world ends and because Rosa has her Sp reload which is a pseudo meta declare you can do long combos using very little meter such as (starting with eva) 5b>2b>5c>meta cancel>66>5a>5b>5b>5c>attacktouch>5a>5b>2b>2c>5c>236EX>66>5b>5c>3c>j236b>(stun)>5b>2b>2c>5c>attacktouch>5a>5b>2b>2c>214b for 3300 damage while only using 2 SP which is very good. Eva also loves pressuring the opponent in the corner and Rosa loves helping her out on this. Rosa has her fantastic reversal which throws the opponent into the corner and as Eva doing a meta super while the opponent has you in corner pressure and than doing a 2c 22a which will not only proc detachment but put the opponent where they do not want to be against Eva with no form of getting out which will allow you to guardcrush the opponent and go in for a nice combo which you may be able to do a attack touch with and you can easily proc another detachment by activating the meta world as rosa midcombo which will not only mean you have done a good amount of damage against the opponent but also that the opponent will have to deal with Rosa's pressure and rosa could at any time attack touch to Eva for some even more terrifying pressure. this team is a horrifying team where being in the corner may be the last thing the opponent wants.

Lambdadelta
Lambda and Eva create quite a interesting team which is decent. Lambda who needs some damage on her normals really does benefit from Eva's ability. and Eva's who has a rather terrible reversal will rely on lambda's 22AB for a reversal. Eva can quite easily combo from a random hit lambda makes and end it quite easily with either her 214b or her air command grab. however the main attraction of these 2 are their pressure in the corner. Both lambdadelta and Eva have fantastic corner pressure and setups with lambda's J2c air strings and her 2c being an extremely easy setup to a frametrap along with her fantastic 214c/AB okizeme and 236C okizeme and most terrifying of all setups with her meta super setup. and Eva with her jelly setups as well as her 6c and her 214 series and her immediate meta super. these 2 character's really dominate when they have the opponent in the corner with their okizeme, setups and high/low safe blockstrings. however apart from pressure, being able to combo from almost any random hit from lambda and do a knockdown with it and lambda's 22AB reversal there is no real other reason to choose lambda.

Combos

Comboing isn't something you need to worry about as Eva. Eva can combo quite easily and does lots of damage for 1-3 Sp. she can deal quite a lot with tag combo's as well and her amazing meta super is a fantastic combo ender as it is only prorated by stun.

jumpins

  • (j.A)>J.B>J.C - always a good jumpin and it is rather easy to combo from. however you may want to skip a 2b as it pushes you quite far back.
  • J.C>J.B - best one for combo's as it does not push you far too back and allows you to quite easily combo after landing. recommended.
  • J.2c - the worst jumpin as well as the hardest one because you need to hit deep with this move. not recommended however if you hit with a J.2c you may as well try to follow up.

Possible everywhere

  • 5A>5B>2B>5C>2C>214B - 1059 damage, do this BNB if you wish not to waste meter as it will allow you to OTG 2b 2c and set up a jelly. recommended meterless combo.
  • 5A>5B>2B>5C>214A+B - 1137 damage, 1 SP required. not a good combo. simple so good for biginners but you dont really want to use this.
  • 5A>5B>2B>5C>2C>236236C - 1300 damage, 2 SP required. same as above. not recommended.
  • 5A>5B>2B>5C>641236C - 1207-1358 damage, meta-world required. Damage is dependent on when in the combo meta-world is activated, due to Eva's Berserk ability.
  • 2A>5B>2B>5C>dash cancel>5B>2B>5C>2C>214B - 1425 damage+forced knockdown. Can be initiated off of j.AB, j.C, or deep j.2C, but the 2A must be omitted after any of those or you will be pushed too far. Alternatively you can metacancel the second 5C into meta super for more damage.
  • 5B>2B>5C>2C>meta cancel>6B>5C>j.BC>j.63214 series - 1900 damage, 1 SP required. good combo if you suspect that the opponent might burst or if you

do not have your tag meter ready. below combo is recommended for being able to set up jelly. use j63214AB to deal more damage and set up jelly oterhwise below combo is easier and better.

  • 5A>5B>2B>5C>Meta activate>5A>2B>5B>5C>dash cancel>5A>2B>5B>5C>641236c>66>2c(OTG) easy 2000 damage with 1 SP. easy and quick and can be started with almost anything and it will do similar damage. doing 6C>Meta activate>5A>2B>5B>5C>dash cancel>5A>2B>5B>5C>641236c>66>2c(OTG) will actually do the same amount of damage which is rather good for a overhead move.you can set up jelly after 2c OTG. very much a recommended combo as it is Very useful to know.
  • 5B>2B>5C>Meta activate>5A>2B>5B>5C>2C>236236C>(stun)>5A>5B>2B>5C>641236C easy 3000 damage with 3 SP. if you use 5a at the beginning it will do 2700 damage instead of 3000 damage. doing a dash cancel before doing the meta world activation will also lead to the combo doing less damage.
  • (C.5a)>5B>2B>F.5C>Meta activate>J9.A>J9.B>J9.C>C.5B>2B>5C>641236C>66>(OTG)2c 2400 damage without the C.5a however 2200 damage with C.5a. you need to be relatively close to the opponent and most of the time while meta declaring you will need to move a slightly bit forward (just press forward while the meta is on and than jump shortly after the declare) so that the J9.A will hit. sometimes you might want to do a 5a after the J9.C and than skip the 2b which will do less damage but not significantly less. however rather hard to pull off and only hits of standing character's and it will not work on short character's.
  • 5B>2B>F.5C>Meta activate>J9.A>J9.B>J9.C>C.5B>2B>5C>2C>236236C>stun>5B>2B>5C>641236C>66>(OTG)2C 3400 damage. fairly hard however worth the effort. it is a good idea to attack touch instead of doing 2c>236236C and then letting your partner do the stun instead as it will likely do more damage and still allow you to do your meta super depending on the character and how long they can drag a combo. after the stun it is advisable to jump behind the opponent and do the meta super so the opponent is left still in the corner with a red jelly against them.
  • 6B>22A+B - 741 damage, 1 SP required. useless combo. do not use in a real match unless you are trolling.
  • 6B>236236C - 843 damage, 2 SP required. useless combo.do not use in a real match unless you are trolling.
  • 6B>5C>j.BC>j.63214 series - 1185 damage , 5B can be added before 5C in the corner which will do 1350 damage. your general BNB after a 6B. does good damage and is quite easy. recommended meterless followup from a 6b.

Corner

  • 5B>2B>5C>236A+B>2B>5C>j.BC>63214 series - 2300 damage. 1 SP. Right after 236A+B, 2B must be immediately input otherwise it will whiff. huge damage for a 1 SP combo.
  • 6B>2b>5b>5c>J.b>J.c>J.63214AB - 1700 damage. corner only. rather hard to do. normal j63214 do not work it must be the EX one. fairly high damage for a 1 SP combo in the corner.

Off tag combos

starts with battler's 2c

  • 5c j.9b j.9c j63214 series - 1200 damage. easy and reliable not to mention does a good amount of damage. use this most of the time. knocks down.
  • 5b 2c J.9b J.9c j63214 series - 1300 damage. corner only and a bit harder. nothing special though. you can do a quick dash at the beginning to make this able for midscreen but its rather hard.
  • meta declare 6b 5b 5c j.8b j.8c j63214 series - 1600 damage. corner only. hard and very weird. you MUST use her meta declare immediately when you land otherwise it will not work.

Strategies and Setup's

U jelly?

One Meter, Eva Guard Break setup:

6B (Blocked) -> 22A -> 22D 6B meaty in the corner can lead to a few situations, the first being a hit or stuffing a jump out which you can follow up with j. 63214D. If it's blocked, you can 22A Jelly into 22D Jelly. 22A will push them in and they will have to hit it once to destroy it. If they hit the 22A jelly, jump over it, or crouch block they will be hit by 22D. If they accept it and block, they will accept about 30% guard bar damage and your potential guard break combo. If they block and it doesn't guard break you can follow up with a 236 web and push them into another block string. If it does break, enjoy any combo you can do with whatever available meter you have as you can simply go through your 22A Jelly. Don't be predictable with your followup unless you want to eat a guard touch. Mixup with 214C overhead, j.abc, and 2C low if your red jelly is still out. You could even do an empty jump and fall to 63214D.

Meta World

one meter, tide changing (or getting the advantage from neutral) trick:

if an opponent is running up to you and you can do a meta super, when they are relatively close to you you can quickly activate the meta world and run up to them and quickly to a 641236(meta super) before they can do anything to avoid it. however if they jumped and you activated your meta world than instead of doing her meta super which will whiff on aaerial opponents you can quickly jump up to them and do her air command grab to still stop them in their tracks and get the advantage. quite a terrifying way to gain the advantage.

Jelly Pressure

what to do when you have the opponent on the ground in the corner.

If you have somehow gotten the opponent in the corner may it be by using Eva's meta super while the opponent had you in the corner and you flipped them into the corner with your meta super or with you doing a normal BNB simply do a 2c 22a to set up some evil pressure against the opponent. This opportunity will come to you more often than not and you should always use this opportunity the best you can. with a jelly out you can do mini blockstrings and high/lows such as 5a 5b 2b 6c 214c and than run up and do it again however remember it can be easily guard touched if it is done too many times. another idea is to run up and try doing a grab. it could be your SP command grab, jumping command grab or just your normal grab however note that most of the time after doing these the jelly will be behind the opponent and if you do Eva's meta super it will flip the opponent out of the corner. it is recommended to try to setup another 22 after the first one disappears. this can be done by doing another knockdown or by doing a 6b or something similar right after the first one disappears so that you can setup another one. it may be a good idea to use the jelly to attack touch into your partner and pressure as them especially if your partner has a lot of SP and can do decent pressure and if Eva's is lacking SP. also note that the jelly eats a burst and that it only hits eats ONE hit meaning that some character's reversal's can easily destroy the jelly and hit Eva. also notice that the jelly makes it hard to see Eva, making her high/lows more effective.
